It’s time to admit my love for [name]Maude[/name]. What are your thoughts on it?
I kind of like it! I have seen it in books, but never heard it on a real person before.
This is my great grandmother’s name, I love it. It makes for a great first or middle name.
I like [name]Maude[/name] because it makes me think of Miss [name]Maudie[/name] Atkinson from To Kill a Mockingbird. She was a great character, and I loved how Miss [name]Maudie[/name] sounded. So naturally I admire [name]Maude[/name]. It does feel slightly out of date for modern times. But I like it!
I adore [name]Maude[/name] in the first or middle slot. She’s sweet, obviously feminine, but with a backbone. For those not quite brave enough to put [name]Maude[/name] on the birth certificate, she could make for a very interesting nickname for the more accepted [name]Matilda[/name] ([name]Maud[/name]/[name]Maude[/name] was the typical English vernacular for [name]Matilda[/name].)
I love [name]Maude[/name]. She’s one of my top names. I’d use her in an instant and I’d love to see her used by others.
After seeing [name]Maude[/name] Apatow is Funny People, Knocked Up, and This Is 40 I have fallen in love with this name and have been able to imagine it on a young/teenage girl instead of just an old lady.
LM [name]Montgomery[/name] is namesake win! It still feels quite old lady-ish to me, but I think it’s definitely on the revival train.
It is a little old lady-ish, but I like it. [name]Maudie[/name] is adorable as a nn on a little girl.
[name]Love[/name] it. [name]Harold[/name] & [name]Maude[/name] is one of my all time faves. Bring it back!
I gotta say that I really, really hate it.
It makes me think of a gaping maw.
It rhymes with odd and clod and wad and sod.
It’s right up there with [name]Bertha[/name] and [name]Dorcas[/name] for me.
I quite like [name]Maude[/name]. Although, especially with this spelling, it does remind me of [name]Ned[/name] Flanders’ wife
Haha, you had me confused for a minute. [name]Maude[/name] doesn’t sound the same as those words with an English accent
I think it’s such a gorgeous name - one of my absolute favourite. To this day I still don’t understand all the hate it’s getting, but I guess that’s just a matter of taste. I also think that pronunciation is a big issue. IIRC it’s pronounced ‘Mawd’ in English, but in French it’s pronounced, in my opinion, much more beautifully (as you can hear here), and it’s pronounced almost the same way in Danish. I don’t know, I love it and think it’s one of the most beautiful names in the world.
She’s part of the reason I’ve fallen in love with the name as well! [name]Maude[/name] is one of my favorite names.
I’m thinking about [name]Maudie[/name] Atkinson from To Kill a Mockingbird too. I like [name]Maude[/name]. It’s short and sweet, but will never use it myself, I think.
It is growing on me, but I would never in a million years use it on my child.
I am not attracted to the sound at all.
I’m afraid I can’t separate it from [name]Bea[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]. “…and then there’s [name]MAUDE[/name]!”
But it looks like no one else fell asleep to '70s reruns as a kid.
I don’t like the sound of it at all, sorry. Written down it’s fine, but spoken it really sounds ugly to me.
I was confused there too, lol. I don’t mind [name]Maude[/name]
I wonder if there are any slower versions. To me, it just sounds like they’re shouting ‘MOD’ really fast.
