My husband’s favorite grandfather (recently deceased) has been honored twice by family members (his first and last name). The only name left is his middle name, [name_u]Maurice[/name_u], which I’m not excited about. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is usable? Thoughts on adaptions? Part of me feels like he already has two namesakes, we don’t need to go there, but on the other hand, he’s super, super important to my husband. Hubby not insisting on a namesake at all; we both just think it would be nice.
I think it’s usable but I don’t really like it. [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is a wonderful alternative.
It’s usable, but don’t feel obliged to use it if you don’t like it. [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is a great suggestion and a really lovely name.
[name_m]Moss[/name_m]
[name_f]Marin[/name_f]
[name_m]Moe[/name_m]
… or maybe [name_f]Maura[/name_f], [name_f]Mara[/name_f] or [name_f]Maris[/name_f] for a girl?
It’s a tricky one!
[name_u]Maurice[/name_u] is totally usable – very regal and scholarly – but I definitely prefer [name_m]Marius[/name_m] or [name_m]Marcel[/name_m].
Hmm, [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] always seems to be the stuffy butler character in movies… it’s usable but not ideal. [name_m]Morris[/name_m] is a similar alternative.
I think [name_m]Morrison[/name_m] would be a good alternative but [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] is definitely usable!
I don’t think there’s any reason for you not to reuse the first or last name if it’s for a middle name. My sister and I have both used the same family name as a middle name for our sons, and if I have a girl I will use my grandmother’s name as a middle name even though I have a niece with that middle name already.
But I do really like [name_u]Maurice[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce it [name_m]Morris[/name_m]?
I think it’s usable and definitley not one you’ll hear on the playground. I like [name_m]Moe[/name_m] as a nickname. But if you’re not sold on it, maybe your husband could come up with something meaningful to the two of them and find a name from there? A place they used to visit, a street where he lived, a sports team, etc. Something along those lines.
I think [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] is lovely - have you considered [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] / [name_u]Reece[/name_u] as a nickname? I think it really modernises it
Thanks for these thoughts! I forgot to check back on the answers… Other thoughts welcome, too.
My husband actually suggested [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] independently, but I’m not sure it’s my favorite.
We pronounce it MORE-[name_u]Reese[/name_u].
I don’t know where you’re from, but it’s definitely one that I hear rumblings of being revived as a vintage cool choice in the UK. I’m starting to see it very occasionally as a middle name of quite cool / arty parentd
While I think that it could be usable, especially in the middle spot, I do definitely prefer [name_m]Marius[/name_m] as a name. [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] is very regal sounding, but I find it reminds me immediately of the Beauty and the Beast character. That might just be me though. I think it’s lovely that you want to honor your husband’s grandfather!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_u]Maurice[/name_u]! I actually have an uncle named [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] [name_u]Maurice[/name_u], but we have always called him Uncle [name_m]Moe[/name_m]! He only goes by [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] for professional meetings!
I was thinking about [name_u]Maurice[/name_u] just the other day. It has a nice sound but it’s too The Catcher in the [name_m]Rye[/name_m] for me.
