I’ve been crushing on [name]Mavis[/name] for a girl lately. To me, it sounds beautiful and mature, but can fit a childish personality. It also boasts the nicknames of [name]May[/name], [name]Mave[/name] and Mavy (prn [name]May[/name]-vee). With the rise of old fashioned names (i.e. [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Lillian[/name]) and names that end in an -s sound (i.e. [name]Alice[/name], [name]Genesis[/name], [name]Alexis[/name], [name]Cerys[/name]), does [name]Mavis[/name] seem to be a logical choice?
I could see it working. I love the meaning and it definitely has the popular -s ending. I would just use something a bit more feminine in the middle name spot.
I actually know a little 2 year old named [name]Mavis[/name]. She’s seriously one of the cutest, friendliest babies I’ve ever met and the name does really seem to fit her!
I would never have though of the name working but on her it’s fabulous.
I am not a fan of old fashioned names at all, but I actually like [name]Mavis[/name], I think because it’s not common right now at all, and the nn choices are all really cute. With a softer girly middle name, it’d be great!
[name]Love[/name] the name actually. It was the name of my older brother’s teacher and a dear family friend. I have nothing but good things associated with it,
This is probably a huge stretch, but my first thought is in the [name]Judy[/name] [name]Blume[/name] book “Are You There God, It’s Me [name]Margaret[/name]” she’s in a club with her friends and her bossy little friend picks new “sensational” names for them. The other girls get pretty cool names, but [name]Margaret[/name] ends up with [name]Mavis[/name]. In comparison to other names I think it’s a little boring, but could maybe be a cute mn alternative to [name]Mae[/name].
[name]Mavis[/name] is the name of a moving company? Maybe it’s a rental car place or oil change place? Regardless it’s something very unglamorous in the NYC area. So I associate it as unglamorous which is unfortunate cause the [name]May[/name] aspect, the zippy V right in the middle the vintage vibe that’s more jazz-age than fainting couch…it is pretty lovable sound-wise.
I don’t like it, but could see it working. I think of the surnames [name]Davis[/name] and [name]Avis[/name] at first thought (both of which are horrifically common around here as both last names and first names).
Oh, I adore [name]Mavis[/name] (so much more than trendy [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name])! I can´t use it with my last name though, so you must use it on my behalf!
