Maya

Came across this name on Disney [name_f]Channel[/name_f], and I think it has a cool meaning (water), and the association to [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] is nice, as well. I just wanted your guys’ opinions in addition to middle name suggestions!

I like [name_f]Maya[/name_f], but the struggle comes with pronunciation. My bestie recently named her perfect little girl this, and everyone asks her how to pronounce it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] me (which is when I found out that literally everyone had asked that question.) So as long as that doesn’t bother you, it’s a beautiful name

I love [name_f]Maya[/name_f]!

I really like [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. I know a [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f].

A beautiful name, but you will get [name_f]May[/name_f] uh vs My uh questions.

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] is lovely! My best friend named her daughter this but spelled it [name_f]Mya[/name_f]. Only downfall to me is it’s becoming very common along with the sister name [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. It’s still a lovely name though in my book.

I love [name_f]Maya[/name_f] a lot. Such a pretty name.

I know it has been rising in popularity, but I love it. I think it’s really versatile - it’s feminine but not frilly, it’s soft but strong, and I can picture it on a wide variety of personalities. It never would’ve crossed my mind not to pronounce it MYE-uh, though I don’t know how big a problem the pronunciation would be in general. There’s also the [name_f]Maia[/name_f] spelling - not sure if that would be easier or more difficult to wear.

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] could handle a really classic, traditional middle name or a really quirky one, and it could have a really weighty one - [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Melisande[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Sidonie[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f]… lots of possibilities.

I quite like [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. Always have.

It’s fairly mainstream and recognizable, but still simple and sweet. It’s a good choice for a child.

I like statement middle names with simple firsts, so:

etc…

I absolutely love [name_f]Maya[/name_f], and it would be a top contender for me if I didn’t already have multiple girls named [name_f]Maya[/name_f] in my family. It was my favorite name when I was growing up and I still adore it. I’d definitely encourage you to use it if you like it.

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] would be an amazing namesake.

I’ve only heard of people pronouncing the name My-uh. I didn’t realize some people pronounced it [name_f]May[/name_f]-uh. Interesting.

I am a big fan of [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. I think it’s timeless, but will still stand out. And I’ve never heard it pronounced [name_f]May[/name_f]-uh, either.

I love [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. It’s a very sweet and multicultural choice.

Funny, before seeing your post I glanced up at the names scrolling across the top of the screen and saw [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] side by side, and I thought, “that would make such a nice tribute to [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f].” Of course I’m realizing as I type that maybe those names are appearing because they’ve just appeared in this post and this is not an original suggestion. But anyway, there it is… [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]!

I have never heard anyone say may-uh, for what it’s worth. I think the my-uh prn is much more widely used.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! Although I prefer the spelling [name_f]Maia[/name_f].

My little sister’s name is [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and it is so beautiful and I love it for her!!

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] is amazing. My daughter’s name is [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. Reasons why [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is amazing:
So many roots!

  • The [name_f]Maya[/name_f] civilization
  • means love in Nepali
  • means generous in old Persian
  • means water in Hebrew
  • means princess in some Arabian languages
  • [name_f]Maia[/name_f] is the Greek goddess [name_m]Hermes[/name_m] mother
  • [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is the goddess of spring (month of [name_f]May[/name_f])
  • [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is one of Budda’s mothers name
  • means illusion in Sanskrit
  • goddess of illusion in Hindu
  • alternate name for the Hindu goddess Durga, goddess of victory of good over evil
  • [name_f]Maya[/name_f] the moon goddess

It’s extremely hard to find a more ancient name! I mean [name_f]Maya[/name_f] has a whole civilization! It’s very worldly. A name can be interpreted so differently throughout the world is just amazing. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] suits a little girl, a gentle teenager, a kind woman and a graceful older woman. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is absolutely one of the most wonderful names to exist!

I live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and I’ve only had one person think [name_f]Maya[/name_f] was pronounced [name_f]May[/name_f]-ah. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is famous for The [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f].
Be warned, it is damn hard to find a name for [name_f]Maya[/name_f]'s sibling that’s nearly as rich in history or meaning. I’m on baby #2 and believe I set the bar high! You just can’t pick a [name_u]Madison[/name_u] kind of name after choosing [name_f]Maya[/name_f].

For a middle names…
Maya Violet
Maya Claire
Maya Lily
Maya Sapphire
Maya Nova
Maya Juliet
Maya Willow
Maya Luna (water and moon)
Maya Lila

If your last name has 1 syllable, pick a 3 sylable name. If it has 2 syllables, pick 1 or 3 sylable names. If it has 3 or more syllables, pick a 1 sylable name. Don’t start the name with M or the first letter of your last name. Don’t end the name in A or the last letter of your last name.
Anything that fits that criteria should give you a great sounding name. But if you have a name with meaning, go with that! I broke some of these guidelines and used Maya Rosa. Rosa has significant meaning to us. It’s a combo of my name and my husbands name. Robert and Sandra.
If you combine letters to make a name also be warned it could be hard to keep up with if you wanted to do that for more children.
