We loved two names: [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] & [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. However, what we [name_m]DON[/name_m]'T love is alliteration which both have with our last name.
I liked [name_u]Marion[/name_u], my husband doesn’t like the sound of it.
We both sort of like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] but don’t like the N ending with our last name (also ending with the N sound).
He likes [name_f]Bella[/name_f], but it reminds me of dogs (I’ve met 4 dogs named [name_f]Bella[/name_f]).
We just can’t find anything! Please help! We want to keep it in the same style as all of the names mentioned, we know that much. We want a feminine/girly name that isn’t TOO over-the-top. We don’t want it to start with B or end with N/the N sound. And the name (and/or nickname option/s) needs to be at least 2 syllables.
I don’t know why, and I’m not sure if it’s the right style, but the name that came to mind while reading these names was [name_f]Cadence[/name_f]. it’s totally different than those mentioned above, but I think it has a similar vibe, and is really nice! You could maybe even use the nn [name_f]Katie[/name_f] (spelled [name_f]Cady[/name_f], [name_u]Cade[/name_u], [name_f]Catie[/name_f] or whatever), but [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] doesn’t need a nickname.
Some ideas based on sibsets I know:
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]: [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]: [name_m]Joe[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_m]Benjamine[/name_m] “[name_m]Ben[/name_m]”
[name_u]Marion[/name_u]: Colinne (these girls are french)
I think [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] might be a great fit for you though!
What about [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Lilias[/name_f], [name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Andrea[/name_u], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f],[name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] to name a few
Please keep in mind the last portion of our post especially. We don’t want names that begin with B, end with N/the N sound, and names/nicknames HAVE to be at least 2 syllables due to our last name. With that said, [name_f]Cadence[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] do fit that.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] but there is something about it that I don’t find pretty and wouldn’t want to personally use (though I can’t figure out what specifically it is). And we both have unfortunate associations with the names [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (it was also my grandmother’s name) but my husband doesn’t like something about it (but has the same problem that I do with [name_f]Cadence[/name_f]). We both like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], but only in theory. That is an example of an “over-the-top” name for us; it’s just a little too much
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about it, you’ll find a name. You say you’re really picky, but you’ve only really dismissed about 10 names so far which is entirely normal. You’re allowed to be picky when naming a child.
I like [name_f]India[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] but my husband vetoed all of them (not a fan of the country name and the others are too fussy for him).
We’re both okay with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] but my husband isn’t liking the idea of [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as a full name (and although I really like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], it won’t go with our last name).
A big part of it is that we both have to agree that we can see us using the name. With [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], and even [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], we can see ourselves with a little girl named one of those but we just can’t get past the sound of them with our last name
Edit: I also like Lily (not loving Lilith however) but my husband isn’t really sure about it
[name_f]Lilias[/name_f] is a little too weird for us (I think it’s the “s”) but we don’t mind [name_f]Lilia[/name_f].
Please keep in mind our last portion of our post; there are certain things we cannot use (names starting with B, ending with N/the N sound, at LEAST 2 syllables). With that said, we like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] but don’t exactly love them
We came across [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] which we think is cute, but only as a nickname. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] won’t work for us (along with [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and [name_u]Emery[/name_u] is a boy name to us) and can’t think of much else as a full name. I’m unsure about [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] since I have a negative association with “[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]” that it is a bit close and not sure if I’d be totally comfortable using [name_f]Emilia[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], so I second that suggestion. [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] too has a similar feel to the names on your list. Or possibly [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Mary[/name_f]? Since you like [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], what do you think of
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] ([name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_u]Ellery[/name_u], [name_f]Elaina[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f])
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] ([name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f])
[name_f]Essie[/name_f] ([name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Estella[/name_f])
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] (any name that ends in -et, ett, or etta, [name_f]Violetta[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Marietta[/name_f], [name_f]Colette[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], ect.)
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] ([name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Edwina[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f])
[name_f]Enna[/name_f]
I get your concerns about alliteration, but I think you might be over thinking it with the ending-in-N sound issue. [name_f]My[/name_f] last name ends in N, and 3/4 of my family have first names that also end in N. It has honestly never felt like a problem to me at all, and I am the BIGGEST stickler for things like flow and repetitive sounds in names. I think as long as it’s a different vowel accompanying the N (eg [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_m]Borden[/name_m]), it really does sound fine. I wouldn’t let that hold you back from using [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] if you love it.
Or maybe a name ending in -bel ([name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Christabel[/name_f], etc) so you could use [name_f]Bella[/name_f] as a nickname?
We both think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is okay (and I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but my husband doesn’t) but not totally sure we love it or could see ourselves using it
Also looking over the other lists and names you like here are a few names that came to mind
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
We’re dead set on finding a name that fits the qualifications we said; we know we could never truly be happy with and love our daughter’s name if it wouldn’t fit all of those.
We both kind of like [name_f]Clara[/name_f], but due to different accents of our family members ([name_f]Claire[/name_f]-uh/clah-ruh) it ruins the name for us. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is okay as well but we don’t have strong feelings for it. Sorry
I’ve told my husband I flat out refuse to use [name_f]Bella[/name_f]; I cannot stand it on a child (no offense to anyone who likes it or has a child named [name_f]Bella[/name_f]). Because of the dog association I can’t get over it, also nicknames tend to be used with last names where we live (especially in schools) and since [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is a B name it’s another big no for me
I like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] but my husband doesn’t like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] & thinks [name_f]Willa[/name_f] sounds incomplete (but [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is too much)
