My husband and I are expecting our first We, like many parents, want a name that honors family and has a sense of tradition or meaning behind it, yet is still modern. So far, our top picks are [name]Colt[/name] or [name]Abigail[/name], however, neither feels like “it” to me.
Family names that could be incorporated or honored in some way are:
[name]Ronald[/name]
[name]Melissa[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Beverly[/name]
[name]Gordon[/name]
[name]Doreen[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Phillip[/name]
Unfortunately, none of those names are ones I would want to specifically use, but anything “inspired by” those names would work. Creativity welcome! (For example, we like [name]Colt[/name] because [name]Phillip[/name] means “horse lover” and [name]Colt[/name] means “young horse”) Also, my maiden name is Italian (Panaggio) and I would love to incorporate that in some way, but my married name is Glissman, so anything too Italian-sounding doesn’t work well with that. We had thought of [name]Giana[/name] for a girl’s middle name (taken from the letters in Panaggio) but I’m hoping for some more suggestions.
Ideas for a meaningful yet modern name? Any suggestions are MUCH appreciated!
I am not expecting and do not yer have any children, but I do enjoy browsing baby names/trends. If I see one I like, I make a note of it and one day will be able to pull it out and say either “what was I thinking?!” or “I forgot about that name!” At any rate, I came across the name [name]Italy[/name] the other day (for a girl) and added it too my list! Neither my husband or I are Italian, but I just thought this name was unique and modern, but not so “out there” that it didn’t sound like a feasible name. With your Italian heritage, it could be a lovely tribute. And I think it goes well with Glissman! As for a boy, I have no ideas. Sorry! :o)
I’ve always loved [name]India[/name] as a girl’s name. And I think [name]India[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] Glissman sounds really pretty altogether.
I also like [name]Arianna[/name] [name]Melissa[/name] Glissman nn [name]Ari[/name], and [name]Luciana[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] Glissman nn [name]Lucy[/name] for something a little more Italian-inspired. [name]Maya[/name] [name]Doreen[/name] Glissman is also pretty and unusual. Oh, and I also love [name]Georgiana[/name] ([name]Georgie[/name]-ahn-na) [name]Doreen[/name] Glissman nn [name]Georgie[/name].
The only boy suggestion I have is [name]Kai[/name] [name]Philip[/name] Glissman. It flows really well together and its super mod.
[name]Ronald[/name] - [name]Veronica[/name] can give you the nn ronny.
[name]Melissa[/name] - means “bee”. [name]Bea[/name] could be a nn for [name]Beatrice[/name]. [name]Melora[/name] is not related but looks similar.
[name]Vivian[/name] - very stylish right now
[name]Margaret[/name] - [name]Margot[/name], [name]Greta[/name], [name]Maisy[/name], [name]Daisy[/name] are all nns for [name]Margaret[/name] that sound fresh. [name]Margaret[/name] means [name]Pearl[/name], which could be a cute name.
[name]George[/name] - I think [name]Georgia[/name] is a great girls name.
Thank you, thank you for all the awesome suggestions! I can’t wait to share with my husband to see what he thinks! I love [name]Grant[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name], and that it means “great hill” like my FIL and husband’s given names. I’ll let you know what we decide on! Thanks again for all the great ideas!
