While I was showing my partner the list of suggestions from another thread on here, he said “I like [name]Megan[/name].”
His surname begins with M, one syllable, and he thinks another M name would sound great with it. He has a brother with an M first name and it works really well with their surname, and I’m kind of warming to the idea.
What do you think of [name]Megan[/name] with our family - siblings in my signature - and what other M names do you think would work?
[name]Megan[/name] is nice, if a little plain and possibly a little dated (I picture it on a 20+ woman, not on a little girl). Your other kids have traditional but more “modern” names.
I know two people whose first, middle, and last name all start with M! There are few letters that I like this with, but M is one of the ones I do like. [name]One[/name] of them is a [name]Megan[/name] [name]Marie[/name] (2 syllable last name) and the other is a [name]Mary[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (3-syllable last name). I love them both!
I think [name]Megan[/name] goes well with your sibset. These are some other M names I like that seem to go with your sibset.
[name]Madeleine[/name]/[name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Melody[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] (nn [name]Miri[/name]-seems to have the same vibe as [name]Libby[/name])
[name]May[/name]
[name]Mira[/name]
My name is [name]Meagan[/name] [name]Mathews[/name]. I like the alliteration and think it works well, but I will be the first to admit that I think it is a little bit boring and dated.
I’ve always liked [name]Megan[/name]/[name]Meagan[/name]. I know people think it’s a little dated, but I feel like it was never terribly overused like other names that get tied to a specific period of time (i.e. [name]Jennifer[/name]). [name]Meg[/name]/[name]Meggie[/name] is a really cute nickname. I think [name]Megan[/name] would work just fine with your sibset. If you’re looking for something that feels maybe a bit more modern, [name]Maren[/name] is one of my favorites that I think would go beautifully with your other kids’ names as well.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. Yes [name]Megan[/name] might be a bit dated but [name]Luke[/name] had one in his class at primary school for a few years so I can see it on a little girl quite easily.
[name]Mila[/name] definitely wouldn’t work with his surname, the first three letters are the same, and the one syllable names probably wouldn’t work too great either. [name]Maia[/name] is also repeating of the first syllable (you can probably guess the surname from all these clues!) I do like [name]Madeleine[/name] a lot, and [name]Matilda[/name] as well. We can’t use [name]Michaela[/name] as it’s a bit too close to [name]Michael[/name] and I don’t like any of the other spellings of it. [name]Margaret[/name] is a bit old lady to me though it does have some nice nicknames.
My favourites so far from the suggestions (we’d use a nickname like we do for [name]Libby[/name]):
Oh, ok, I’ve never heard of the name before. I’ll put it to my partner and see what he thinks, it is a pretty name but he might think it’s a little bit out there.
There’s also [name]Margot[/name], which could be cute with [name]Libby[/name]. Feels nicknamey without actually being a nickname, and I think it’s cute for a little girl but ages with sophistication. But I also love [name]Madeleine[/name]/[name]Maddy[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]/[name]Tilly[/name].
I think [name]Megan[/name] goes well with your sibset. That said, I do agree with a previous poster that [name]Luke[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name] are more “current” while [name]Megan[/name] is a bit dated. I know LOTS of Megans in their 20s and 30s but only one under the age of five. However, that could be a good thing if you are looking for a classic but not common name. I do love the nickname [name]Meggie[/name]!
Other names I thought of were:
[name]Molly[/name]
[name]May[/name]/[name]Mae[/name] (I prefer the [name]Mae[/name] spelling)
[name]Maisie[/name] (nickname for [name]Margaret[/name], but can be used in its own right too)
[name]Marla[/name]
I Also like [name]Madeline[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] and the cute nicknames you picked for them!
[name]One[/name] more question - Is [name]Libby[/name]'s full name [name]Elizabeth[/name]? If so, I would suggest using [name]Margaret[/name] as a full name and [name]Megan[/name]/ [name]Meggie[/name] as a nickname. [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] are beautiful, classic names and flow better than [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Megan[/name], at least in my opinion. I also like [name]Madeline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]…
I have never been a big fan of [name]Megan[/name]. I think [name]Madeline[/name] works much better with your kids’ names. Here are my favorite M names:
Hmmm…as someone with the name in question, I have always felt like my name was very dated and is not aging well. I am in my mid 20’s and have thought about this often.
The pros…there wasn’t a lot of teasing potential in the name, it might be refreshing on a baby/child in 2013, and it isn’t a BAD name.
Also, with my maiden name, my initials were MMM and I loved it. So I am all for having same initials!!! I like pp suggestions of [name]Matilda[/name]. I also think that [name]Mae[/name] would be beautiful with [name]Libby[/name], [name]Luke[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name]. Good luck!
I love the alliteration (for some reason, M alliteration sounds amazing to me), but I don’t love [name]Megan[/name]. It’s still dated to me, but it is soft, sweet, and sturdy sounding. Perhaps there’s another M name that “feels” like [name]Megan[/name] but is a bit more updated.
With [name]Luke[/name], [name]Elliot[/name], & [name]Libby[/name], I’d suggest:
I do like [name]Megan[/name], and I think it works for you. I think the dated feeling probably depends on where you are - I think it’s less dated in the UK.
If I remember rightly from one of your other threads, [name]Libby[/name] has the full name [name]Elizabeth[/name], yeah? If so, I think a longer name with a shorter nickname would go well for a girl. [name]Madeleine[/name] nn [name]Maddy[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Tilly[/name] both work well, classics with cute, spunky nicknames. If you’ve a one syllable surname I’d stick to longer names as well.
Other suggestions:
[name]Melissa[/name] nn [name]Mel[/name] or Lissy - might be too close to [name]Elliot[/name] or [name]Libby[/name] with the nicknames though, but if you can find another one you like - [name]Missy[/name] maybe? - it would work.
[name]Maria[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name]/[name]Milena[/name]/[name]Mildred[/name] nn [name]Milly[/name]/[name]Millie[/name] - If I’ve got your surname right, [name]Milly[/name] M sounds adorable. Or [name]Amelia[/name]/[name]Emilia[/name] nn [name]Milly[/name], but that won’t give you the MM initials.
[name]Marianna[/name]/[name]Marianne[/name] nn [name]Mari[/name] or [name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annie[/name]- yes it looks like two names rolled into one, but it’s got a load of cute nicknames that would fit right in with your kids’ names.
I am a [name]Meghan[/name], I go by [name]Meg[/name], and I love my name. :). My favorite names for a little girl that starts with “m” are:
[name]Molly[/name]
[name]Mara[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Marni[/name]
