My grandmother’s neighbour’s little girl is called Megija, they’re from Latvia, and from the first time I heard it I fell completely in love with it! I’ve always loved the nickname Meg, but not a massive fan of Megan. Wanted some opinions on middle names, or potential sibling names as well? Just wanted to share because I love it and I’ve never heard it anywhere else!
I think it’s very pretty! I do worry the pronunciation will cause some confusion (I’m personally not sure how to pronounce it) but I love the look.
I personally think I would give siblings other names used in Latvia that are internationally accessible, like…
[name_f]Marta[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Alisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Milana[/name_f]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_u]Nikita[/name_u]
[name_f]Karolina[/name_f]
Matiss
[name_u]Leo[/name_u]
[name_f]Adelina[/name_f]
[name_m]Bruno[/name_m]
Andrejs
I think it’s pretty. I don’t find it that hard to pronounce but there is a sizable Latvian and Lithuanian community in my area so I have encountered names like [name_f]Marija[/name_f] and [name_f]Sofija[/name_f] before. I do think it would be pronounced wrong a lot outside of that culture though - lots of people will assume the J is pronounced like in [name_f]English[/name_f].
If you’re not Latvian I would suggest changing the spelling to Megiya because that might make it easier for [name_f]English[/name_f] speakers to get right.
