So I’m expecting baby boy #3 in early [name_u]December[/name_u] and me and DH are struggling to pick the right name. Lately I have been loving Mekhai (PRN Meh-ky) and DH really likes it too. However, I’m afraid that it’s too “out there” compaired to our other son’s names ([name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] “[name_m]Eli[/name_m]” and [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] “JJ”).
His middle name is going to be [name_m]David[/name_m].
I automatically think of AJ Cook’s (JJ from Criminal Minds) son. His name is Mekhai and I have always liked it. I also know a little boy named McKay, so the idea of Mekhai doesn’t seem all that out there to me. I think if you spelled it McKye it wouldn’t be considered so different from your other sons more traditional names. I do think [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] or even [name_u]Micah[/name_u] probably work better with your sons’ names.
I like [name_m]Makai[/name_m], this spelling. Gul [name_m]Makai[/name_m] was [name_f]Malala[/name_f] Yousafzai’s pen name for a while, which is a cool association. According to google translate, [name_m]Makai[/name_m] means “police” in Hawaiian, but I’ve also read that it means “towards the sea.” It’s also related to [name_u]Michael[/name_u].
In any case, I don’t think sibling matching is that important. Mekhai does stand out from [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], but if you really love it, go ahead and use it. If you really want something that fits, I’d suggest the biblical [name_m]Micaiah[/name_m] or [name_m]Micajah[/name_m] (both pronounced ma-[name_u]KAI[/name_u]-ya) with Micai as a nickname. [name_m]Micaiah[/name_m] seems very Hebrew, like [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], and the spelling makes the name seem a bit more traditional than Mekhai.
I was gonna say the same thing about AJ Cooks little boy! That’s where I first heard the name as well. I think it’s super handsome.
I think that it kinda has the same feeling as [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_u]Jesse[/name_u]. I do prefer the [name_m]Mekhi[/name_m] spelling though.
