I really love Memory as a girls name, but its definitely unusual. What are your thoughts? [name_u]Ever[/name_u] known a Memory?
Never known one, but it would be cute! You could call her [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]!
I actually love Memory, but personally Iâve never been able to commit to it as a first name, only in the middle.
I think word names as first names, especially ânewâ ones, have to mean something to the parents personally. It doesnât have to be much, but more than âit sounds really pretty and memories are a nice thing to haveâ which is where itâs at for me now.
I like Remedy as well, perhaps even a little better. Probably because it has personal significance to me ^^
Iâm also quite fond of [name_f]Remember[/name_f], but that one isnât new so itâs less dependant on meaning something special. I really wonder what I would name the siblings of Memory or [name_f]Remember[/name_f] though! Going all word names is ok, but which ones have the same kind of impact?
I think it could prove problematic, especially if she grows up to be forgetful. [name_u]Emory[/name_u] has a similar sound and look, but cuts out most of the âbad memoriesâ and other obvious teases. I like some word names, but Iâm not a fan of this one.
Makes me think of the song from Cats.
I knew a Memory! It raised some eyebrows at first but she was a sweet girl. She went by Mem. [name_m]Just[/name_m] graduated from high school, actually. It was definitely memorable⌠pun intended
I love the idea of Memory nn Mem. Itâs sweet. I think if someone were to actually use it it could be a nice, meaningful middle name.
Has a nice rhythm and flow; I think it could be cute.
Itâs really pretty, but not quite usable as a first name.
I think it is pretty, but better as a middle name
I am concerned that memory will have more teasing when she is elderly! [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] sounds nice as a nick name!
Dislike it a lot, i immediately thought of âmammaryâ.
But if you like it the thats cool too (:
I must say Memory has a lovely sound and fantastic connotations. It really does. I also like the potential of nicknames Mem and [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]. It too fits in well with virtue names and has that modern feel (like [name_u]Emery[/name_u]), while too having a classic air. I like it a lot.
That said, I canât help but think to the very real possibility of the name proving to be quite a burden for a young girl/woman to carry as a first. I think it would be easier carried as a middle name where I think it could work so, so well with âthe rightâ first. But, if you think a daughter of yours could grow into it and pull it off well, I say go for it as first!
I signed up just so I could reply to this post. My name is Memory, I picked it when I was 12 which was a foolish decision because it wasnât exactly a name at all and nobody used words like these for names, my mom was against it but I was 12 and not very bright.
As I went through high school and college and uni, every time I meet someone new and I introduce myself they would go âSorry? Could you repeat that I dont think i quite got itâ and this goes on for about two or three times before they go âReally? That memory? The one where you remember things?â cue pointing to their head, and Iâd reply yes and most people (i think out of politeness) would say its a cool/interesting name, while some people would say its odd.
Then some of the jokes about my name would be â[name_m]How[/name_m] many gigabytes are you?â or singing the Memory song, which were all done in a friendly joking way so it was all fine, but it gets tiring after a while and I just donât have the energy to laugh with them anymore so I just chuckle a little and move on. Though some people actually didnât like me just because of my name, they thought I was some âspecial wannabeâ and one time which i vividly remember being called lame right to my face.
Basically, its a nice name if you live in a place where people usually have thing names like [name_f]Apple[/name_f], [name_u]July[/name_u], or etc. But if you live somewhere where people are gonna judge others based on their names I think its safer to go with a more normal name. And the most annoying part for me of this name is just when Iâm introducing myself to someone new and I have to go through that entire routine every time, its harmless but it get irritating and not cute.
Oh also, I only let my close friends shorten my name because they do it as Mems and not Mem, because that sounds like Maâm and I dont exactly like sounding so old when Iâm young. But [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] is a nice nickname for it that I never thought of, maybe i could start using that.
Me and my wife really love m this name. But the reality is that both our families and friends will most likely find it annoying or see it as a âsuper hipsterâ move. We would love to see it normalized. I keep thinking âhow did [name_f]Melody[/name_f], and [name_f]Constance[/name_f] become perfectly normal names?â Someone has to break the mold at some point. As long as we love it, it might as well be us!
