[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f]? Does it automatically draw your mind towards the car? Or do you think of the pretty Spanish name? We like it but hold back bc of the strong car correlation.
Also, what nicknames could go w [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f]? We were thinking Cede (pronounced like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]).
I don’t think of the car, but that’s probably because I’ve known someone with this name. She went by Meci (pronounced meh-chi), but I like Cede “[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]” as well! I think it’s very pretty. I guess some people will think of the car… If you love it, I would use it (but I’m also someone who loves and would use the name [name_f]Allegra[/name_f], in spite of people’s association with the allergy medication!).
It actually makes me think of the character [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] from the book The [name_m]Count[/name_m] of [name_m]Monte[/name_m] Cristo. I think the majority of people will have their minds drawn to the car though which is a shame because it is a really beautiful name.
I like the nickname [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] best.
Not a fan tbh, I had a ‘friend’ named [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] who ended up being horrible to me, haha. She went by [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] though.
Thanks for the honest feedback, guys!
I was just thinking about this name.
Most people would find it trashy and think you named your child after a car, but they don’t realize it is a legitimate name. And, according to the Nameberry database, the car was named after a young girl with this name, so the name definitely came first.
I think it’s cute and pretty, but would never use it because of the car correlation.
Cedes or [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is what I would use as a nickname. [name_m]Just[/name_m] Cede is also cute!
Good luck, and use whatever name you want.
I really like it, typically it’s not something I’d gravitate towards; but I really like it
With a Spanish last name I’d think “how nice, a classic Spanish virtue name”…without one, I’d think the parents were probably inspired by the car (which they probably can’t afford) and unaware of the “stripper name” associations. I really like [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], though!
The [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f]-Benz association is very strong where I live. Most people would not realise it is a legitimate Spanish name.
