Meredith is a male name in my husbandâs family but we are contemplating putting it on our girls list, as we probably have our boy names sorted and it doesnât fit with any of them. Itâs Welsh and means âgreat rulerâ.
do you prefer Meredith for a boy or a girl? (itâs usually muh-RED-ith for a boy and MEH-re-dith for a girl)
what vibe do you get from the name?
what nicknames can you think of? (stretchy welcome!)
my thoughts
I think I prefer it as a soft, romantic boys name but coming round to it for a girl. For me it has either a medieval, Celtic vibe (love) or a sort of preppy American vibe (dislike). In terms of nicknames the obvious one is Merry, I also like Edie but Iâd love more inspiration.
I like [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] of any gender! Itâs a wonderful name and I love the cheerful sound and -th ending. It feels warm and happy to me, a little rugged, kind of like a sunny day, but also pools of dark water?
I would love to see [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] nn [name_u]Merry[/name_u] used on a boy but Iâve only ever heard it on girls in the US.
It would have been on my girls list but we watch The Office a lot and it is too tied to the character for us.
I still really like it though. I get a Celtic vibe from it for sure.
I never knew [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] could be a boys name! Although now that you sAy it⊠I could see it. Iâve only known girl Meredithâs though. And interestingly all I have known have gone by their full names! [name_u]Merry[/name_u] is super cute though! Good luck
I think [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] works for any gender! It has cheerful, carefree vibes, like running through a meadow, although that could be influenced by a personal association I have.
Nicknames:
[name_f]Meri[/name_f] / [name_u]Merry[/name_u]
Meddy (my favorite!!!)
[name_u]Red[/name_u]
Reddy

[name_f]Miri[/name_f]
[name_f]Maddie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mimi[/name_f]
Middy
[name_f]Mitzy[/name_f]
[name_f]Milly[/name_f]
I think she has dark academia vibe she feels moody and striking. Unexpected. She also has cosy warm undertones.
I like [name_u]Merry[/name_u] as a nickname. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_u]Red[/name_u] & [name_f]Didi[/name_f] could also work.
The [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] on the Office isnât the greatest namesake. Lol
But honestly most people wouldnât even think of her at all. [name_m]Just[/name_m] in our house.
Definitely donât let that stop you!
I donât mind [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] on a boy especially if you live somewhere that it wouldnât be unusual, but prefer it on a girl. Its recently become on of my favorites. I get really fun, spinky, fiery vibes. Its classic without being stuffy and would suit a little girl and an adult equally well. Also a little christmassy but that might just be because my favorite nn for it is [name_u]Merry[/name_u]. [name_u]Merry[/name_u], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Mari[/name_f], [name_f]Miri[/name_f], [name_f]Maren[/name_f], [name_u]Red[/name_u], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f].
