Merida? and if so, is this combo okay?

I really wanted to honor my grandmother by naming my 2nd daughter (5th child) [name_f]Odelia[/name_f].

However, we have toyed with middle names for what seems like forever and just can’t find one we like.
I have recently been crushing so hard on the name [name_f]Merida[/name_f] (yes like brave) but I am afraid that people will constantly be saying ‘oh like Brave!’ when I introduce her. I think I can deal with it but what do you think of the name…

[name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f]? It seems like there are too many A’s to me, but I love the name [name_f]Merida[/name_f] and my kids already spilled that we are using [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] to my grandmother so now I have to use it SOMEWHERE in her name. And I WANT too, I just cannot come up with a combo I love.

Help! lol

I agree with you, the flow is slightly off…
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] would work well, if that is your style.
Or [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] __ to alter the flow. [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], or something else short and sweet would work well xxx

[name_f]Merida[/name_f] is beautiful! [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] is beautiful! Together they are not beautiful. I wouldn’t worry about the Brave connections too much. It hasn’t taken off as much as Frozen. I would choose a different Mer- name or find another way to honour your grandmother. @eleistar’s suggestion of [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] is lovely.

My grandmother doesn’t have a middle name, so [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] has to be used.
I am not a [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] fan. I am not really a Mer- name fan at all I just fell in love with [name_f]Merida[/name_f]. My 2 yr old little girl has red curly hair (I know the next one may not) but it just has really caught my heart.

I was thinking maybe [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Delle[/name_f]?
Hubby is opposed to 2nd middle names or that would be perfect to break up the awkward flow!

First off, I love the name [name_f]Merida[/name_f]. I don’t think people will make the “Brave” association, as it wasn’t THAT big of a movie.

However, [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] doesn’t sound right to me. [name_m]Way[/name_m] too choppy, no flow at all.

To be honest, I prefer [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] to [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Delle[/name_f].
Could you ask your grandmother to help you to choose her middle name, that way you are still including her? Xx

No DH is certain he wants to use [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] so if we can’t use Odeila he doesn’t want to use [name_f]Merida[/name_f] :frowning:

Thanks for all the input berries!

both names are lovely! it’s true they are not ideal together, but not terrible either! I’d say using a first name you love with the meaningful honor middle is more important than perfect flow.

[name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] would be pretty! [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought… Good luck!

I agree with @emsky. While the flow of [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] isn’t great, it isn’t too bad either. I would use it. Her name doesn’t have to flow perfectly to be beautiful. Each name has been chosen for a lovely reason and she will appreciate that x

[name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_u]Dell[/name_u]!!! [name_u]Dell[/name_u] is a nickname for [name_f]Odelia[/name_f]. [name_u]Dell[/name_u] is on my list and so is [name_f]Merida[/name_f]. It sounds much better together than [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f].

Thank you!!!

This makes me feel so much better about it, while I am not 100% solid on the name I do love it and would like it on my short list.

haha! Hubs shot down [name_u]Dell[/name_u] really fast, he works in the tech industry… lol I thought it was a pretty combination but he ruined it for me after that.

I think [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] sounds rather beautiful together! Sure, it doesn’t have the perfect flow of other combos, but I’ve heard a lot worse, and I think it actually sounds quite regal. By way of explanation, I am thinking of the little Danish princesses who have long, flowy names with repeated sounds ([name_f]Isabella[/name_f] [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]). I agree fully with PPs who have said that having two lovingly selected, gorgeous names is more important than ideal flow. I think you should use [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] if that’s the way you choose to go.

you are starting to make me like it even more <3!!! Thank you!

I think the combination is beautiful. There is the double a at the end of the names but a child’s middle is so rarely used.

[name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f]

[name_f]Merida[/name_f] is VERY strongly associated with Brave, especially since it did not seem to have been used nearly as frequently as [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] before Frozen came out. Brave aside, [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] is fine.

[name_f]Merida[/name_f] is a lovely name, and [name_f]Merida[/name_f] is my favourite Disney princess. The association isn’t a bad one, however other posters are correct, Brave as a movie isn’t really that well known and not everyone will know the princess.

[name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] doesn’t really flow well. I’d probably change it to [name_f]Merida[/name_f] [name_f]Odele[/name_f]
