Am I just liking it because I’m rewatching the series?
Is it too weird if I once had a guinea pig called [name_m]Merlin[/name_m]?
How does it fit besides [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], [name_m]Sholto[/name_m], [name_f]Sarai[/name_f], [name_f]Cherith[/name_f], [name_f]Una[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabli[/name_f]?
Edit: this has got me thinking about Emrys and Emlyn too -how do they work?
Thanks for taking the time to listen to my ponderings
Hmm. Because it has such a distinct connotation, I think it would work better as a middle name, but it’s a cool name! It’s braver than your other choices, but if you had your heart set on it as a first it could work.
I love it
I considered [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] but I thought it would be too much with an [name_m]Arthur[/name_m].
I think [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] works with your other favorites and I would love to see it get use!
Merlin is so amazing but I just see it as a pet name rather than on a human. I do really like [name_m]Marlon[/name_m] though? Which makes me think of [name_m]Marlon[/name_m] [name_m]Brando[/name_m]
I put it in the same group of boys names like
[name_m]Casper[/name_m]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_m]Lance[/name_m]
[name_m]Troy[/name_m]
[name_m]Cassian[/name_m]
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
I’ve actually been loving [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] since forever! But I think [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] goes better with the other names on your list. If it weirds you out that it was a name of your pet, then maybe use it as a middle? Or think of it as a way to honour your pet? We once had a calf named [name_m]Fergus[/name_m], but now I’m considering it for a potential son
I love [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] I think it’s beautiful personally feel [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] goes better with your combo but I can’t help but love the uniqueness of [name_m]Merlin[/name_m]! I say go for it
There’s always [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] [name_u]Holland[/name_u], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_u]Wilde[/name_u]’s grandson, who makes the name sound more serious to me. (Well, he’s a [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] [name_u]Vyvyan[/name_u] who chooses to go by [name_m]Merlin[/name_m].)
I could be biased though… I also love the show and would use [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] as a middle name if it hadn’t been vetoed.
I don’t think it’s too weird that it’s a past pet name. I had a beloved cat named [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and I’d love to use it as a middle name one day.
I think [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] is perfect for you sibset. [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is lovely too. [name_u]Emlyn[/name_u] feels like a girl name.
I love [name_m]Merlin[/name_m]!! So handsome, sweet, and magical. Definitely an underappreciated gem. I think it fits perfectly with your favorite names! I don’t think it’s weird that you had a guinea pig with the name. I had a cat named [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] when I was a little kid, and still have [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] on my list!
Also absolutely love [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] and [name_u]Emlyn[/name_u]!!!
I actually really like [name_m]Merlin[/name_m]! And it gives you the nickname [name_f]Merry[/name_f] which is a gp of mine from [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings. I think he fits perfectly with the rest of your names. The guinea pig association would only be weird if it bothered you. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. You’re not going to talk to your son and think of the guinea pig(I don’t think so). I also love [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]!
I think the association (and the guinea pig) is too strong for a first name, but would make a fun middle!
Oooh I really like [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] and [name_u]Emlyn[/name_u] too! Though gremlin just popped into my head sometimes I also worry that [name_u]Emlyn[/name_u] looks like [name_f]Emily[/name_f]/Emmeline variant with the middle vowels removed. But I still like both.
I honestly think [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] is perfectly usable.
Last year my son had classmates with names like [name_m]Odin[/name_m], [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], and Arkangel.
And aside from [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], I’ve seen folks use [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], and [name_f]Nimue[/name_f].
I honestly don’t think anyone would really bat an eye at [name_m]Merlin[/name_m].
I’ve always thought it was a pleasant sounding name, and I like that in addition to Arthurian literature there’s also a nature association for this name; merlins are a gorgeous raptor class bird.
My general feeling is that [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] is a great name alongside [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] most specifically and that it works with your overall set. I also think [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] would work nicely here but I’m unsure about [name_u]Emlyn[/name_u].
