I stumbled across this one whilst browsing on nameberry. I think [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] could be sweet on a girl, even though I’m not usually a fan of gender switching, and I’m not loving it for a boy. I don’t think it has a very masculine sound and because it seems pretty uncommon, I think it could work for a girl.
It appeals to me because of the sound, and the nickname [name_f]Merry[/name_f], which I’ve always liked, but mainly because it’s a version of the name [name_u]Maurice[/name_u], which is one I’d like to use as an honour name for my grandfather.
What do people think? Could it work? I’m also interested to see what people think would work for middle names
Thanks!
This is the name of a very high quality dog food.
I love Merit though as a similar name.
I don’t know, I’ve heard of [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] enough to feel that it has a very masculine sound. I can’t really see it on a girl at all. Merit is nice, or even [name_f]Marit[/name_f]/[name_f]Maritza[/name_f]. Besides, the -ick ending is quite popular for boys–[name_m]Dominick[/name_m], [name_m]Yannick[/name_m], [name_u]Nick[/name_u]/[name_m]Finnick[/name_m], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], Emeric, [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]Eric[/name_m], etc., etc.–so while the Merr- part sounds feminine, the ending feels very masculine to me.
Good luck!
I actually like it. Because of the feminine beginning of Merr I think it could most definitely work for a girl. Much in the same way that [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] or [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] would. Ultimately if the -ick is to harsh i think Meric does come across as more dainty. If paired with a feminine middle i think it would be perfect.
I think of [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] aka Elephant [name_m]Man[/name_m]
[name_m]Merrick[/name_m] has been used as a girl’s name in the past; it is what [name_m]Richard[/name_m] Kuklinski “The Ice [name_m]Man[/name_m]” named his first daughter. I think it sounds good either way, as a boy or girl’s name.
I don’t find [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] suitable for a girl at all, not as a first. I do second the suggestions of [name_u]Merritt[/name_u] and [name_f]Marit[/name_f]!
I actually know a little girl name [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]. The name is very sweet on her. I believe her sisters name is [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u].
