I heard her mother calling “[name]Addy[/name] [name]Addy[/name]” and since my niece’s name is [name]Adeline[/name], I asked what [name]Addy[/name] was short for (since its almost always [name]Addison[/name] or [name]Adelyn[/name] etc, my sister likes hearing if there is another [name]Adeline[/name] out there locally) and her mom said “[name]Gladys[/name]”. Apparently it was her husbands grandmother and they wanted to honor her with the first name (as they were honoring his other grandmother with the middle) since she raised him but didn’t particularly want a “[name]Gladys[/name]” so they shortened it to “[name]Addy[/name]”. Interesting! Her middle name is [name]Vivian[/name], which I like better but the mom made it sound like grandma [name]Vivian[/name] although a wonderful woman was not the one who he was close to, so I’m glad they honored grandma [name]Gladys[/name]. Thought I would share since I have get to meet a little girl local to me with this name.
Aw, that’s adorable. I don’t especially love the Welsh [name]Gladys[/name], but I love the ancient [name]Roman[/name] original, [name]Claudia[/name], and [name]Gladys[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] nn [name]Addy[/name] is adorable! I admit, I’m partial to it as one of my favorite heroines is [name]Gladys[/name] Aylward.
Neat! I worked with a young [name]Gladis[/name] (this spelling) for a while. She was bright and energetic and really breathed life into a name I had always considered terminally "old fusty lady. " [name]Gladys[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] works, and the nickname [name]Addy[/name] is a cute modern spin.
It’s so wrong… it’s right! I love it!
Your post made me so happy!!! I had a wonderful Great Aunt [name]Gladys[/name] and I adored her!!! So happy to hear of it finding new life again. Cute nn too, I hadn’t thought of that before.
I actually quite like [name]Gladys[/name], its pretty.
Aw, I love the name [name]Gladys[/name]! I wish they called her that, though. [name]Addie[/name] is pretty boring to me.
That’s so sweet! It’s nice hearing that name outside of an [name]Irene[/name] Nemirovsky novel, or as a reference to my clumsy (but sweet) Great-Aunt [name]Gladys[/name].
[name]Love[/name] it
