Micah as as nickname for Michael

hi berries!

what do you think of micah as as nickname for michael?

would it be difficult due to the similarity but not being quite different enough?

i’m a bit torn and can’t decide if i like it or not.

let me know what you think xx

The sounds are there, it just feels a bit pointless as a nickname to me since the only sound you’re omitting it the L

Oh, absolutely works! I kind a love it.
Then you’ve got two quite similar names with quite different feels to use.

I adore [name_u]Florence[/name_u] nn [name_f]Flora[/name_f], which feels similar in terms of structure and style differences in a name vs its nickname. Totally works, totally fun. Totally necessary? Of course not. But if you love it, it absolutely works! And it’s lovely!

It’ll work & I don’t think it’ll be too ‘out there’ as it’s all in the [name_u]Michael[/name_u] manuel if you switch the h & a around ([name_u]Micha[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Micah[/name_u]).

I think that it absolutely would work, but it does feel a little bit off because they are both well-established full names and are similar in length.

Seems like a different name to me. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Mike[/name_m] though!

it seems a bit pointless to me, especially since in my accent the L in [name_u]Michael[/name_u] is barely even there. it could work in theory, but it’s one of those where you might as well use the nickname as a full name and cut out the middle man (for lack of a better term)

I think it works:)

Agreeing with others that it sounds pointless and odd. Pointless because it’s pretty much the same name without the L and odd because [name_u]Micah[/name_u] is already a name in itself.

I agree with @futuremama. The omission of one letter seems a little pointless, but not unheard of, such as [name_f]El[/name_f] for [name_f]Ella[/name_f]! I do like it, however, and it’s a fresher take [name_m]Mike[/name_m].

It makes me wonder why you didn’t just go for [name_u]Micah[/name_u] because it’s a well-establish full name in its own right, and only one sound off from [name_u]Michael[/name_u] (more like [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ella[/name_f] than the above example, since it’s the same number of syllables). Also, [name_u]Micah[/name_u] would honor a [name_u]Michael[/name_u] perfectly—I actually used to have it as an honor name for a [name_u]Michael[/name_u] in my own life—so it seems pointless for that reason too.

I tend to think it’s odd when established names are used as nicknames. In this case, it’s not even any shorter, really, and it doesn’t feel like a diminutive.
