Michael "Mack"

Hello berries! I have a few questions about this little treasure, [name_m]Michael[/name_m] is a very important honor name to me, and [name_m]Mack[/name_m] is just adorable! I would love to use it for an actual kid someday, but only if it we can get past these things:

1: Is [name_m]Mack[/name_m] too stretchy as a nickname?

2: [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any middles that would flow well with [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and [name_m]Mack[/name_m]?

3: How do we lose the obvious mac & cheese and Big [name_m]Mac[/name_m] associations?

4: Vibes from [name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€?

5: What would you name his siblings?

6: What are your associations with this name?

Thanks!

  1. I think [name_m]Mack[/name_m] works fine! It feels like a nickname that coukd work generally for a boy, but the sounds are all there anyway in [name_m]Michael[/name_m]

[name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ [name_m]Luca[/name_m]
[name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ [name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ [name_m]Elias[/name_m]
[name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ [name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ [name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ [name_f]Rain[/name_f]

  1. [name_m]Mack[/name_m] is familiar enough these days, but it might be something you just get used to?

  2. [name_m]Classic[/name_m] and traditional with a fun twist

  3. [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] (Ozzy), [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (Tali), [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (Kit), [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (Hayes), [name_m]James[/name_m] (Jem), [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] (Cal), [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] (Coby), [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (Billie)

  1. Not stretchy at all! I think nicknames can stem from anything and don’t have to be totally matchy with the formal name to work
  2. I feel like any middle name with a different syllable count would work! So for [name_m]Michael[/name_m] I would do a 1 or 3+ syllable middle while if you use [name_m]Mack[/name_m] on its own I’d do 2+ syllables
  3. I think using the K spelling will help but I’m not sure if it’s totally unavoidable. I know many female Mackenzies who go by [name_m]Mack[/name_m] and haven’t gotten any food associations to their name, I hear it more with males
  4. [name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ feels laid back, chill, easy going, that sort of vibe for me. It feels like a more modern take on the traditional [name_m]Mike[/name_m] / [name_m]Mikey[/name_m] nicknames but it still feels very approachable
  5. Siblings I’d keep the long full name with a short and spunkier nickname. I could picture a [name_m]Michael[/name_m] ā€œMackā€ having a sister with a traditionally boy name something like [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] ā€œPennyā€ or [name_m]Emerson[/name_m] ā€œEmmyā€ or vice versa like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ā€œJoeyā€ or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ā€œCharlie.ā€ For boys I’d go with the same vibes so something like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] ā€œCase,ā€ [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] ā€œAndy or Xander,ā€ [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] ā€œHughā€ or [name_m]William[/name_m] ā€œLeeā€
  6. I don’t know anyone named [name_m]Mack[/name_m] but when I’ve heard it as a nickname it’s been for names like [name_m]Macklin[/name_m] / [name_m]Macaulay[/name_m] / [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] / [name_m]Malakai[/name_m] / [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] / [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]. As for [name_m]Michael[/name_m] most of the guys I know with this name are either 40-60 roughly, in their 20s but it’s their middle name, or super young like kindergarten aged. I don’t think it’s a bad name! It’s timeless wear it’s going to have periods where it spikes more in popularity one year than the other, but I don’t think it will ever drop out of existence. It’s a classic so if you use it people are going to naturally like it!

I think [name_m]Mack[/name_m] works wonderfully as a nn for [name_m]Michael[/name_m].

I didn’t think of the food related associations at all. When I hear [name_m]Mack[/name_m], I think of Scottish surnames and [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] I think I’d even come up with rain mac before mac n cheese!

Siblings could be [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] ā€˜Ozzy’ & [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] ā€˜Milly.’
