Middle name - Dorothy Dot or Dottie?

My husband and I have decided on our daughters first name which will be [name]Violet[/name] and we are dedicating her middle name to my late grandmother [name]Dorothy[/name]. I can’t decide whether to go with the full [name]Dorothy[/name], which I feel sounds very old fashioned or the shorter version of [name]Dottie/Dotty[/name]. I have also considered [name]Dot[/name] but don’t like this so much because it sounds like a email address…

Any other suggestions?

I prefer [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name]. There’s also [name]Violet[/name] [name]Doll[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dolly[/name], but I still prefer [name]Dorothy[/name] personally. Also I think [name]Doss[/name] and [name]Dossie[/name] used to be used as nn’s for [name]Dorothy[/name], but I might be confused. Anyway, still [name]Dorothy[/name].

You could do [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dora[/name], [name]Violet[/name] [name]Doro[/name], [name]Violet[/name] [name]Thea[/name] (from the [name]Dorothea[/name] spelling) if you like…

I like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name] best. I do agree that [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dot[/name] sounds kind of like a url or an email adress, but maybe [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dottie[/name] could work.

I actually like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dot[/name]. I think it sounds really cute. [name]Dot[/name] would also be good as one of two middle names like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Dot[/name] or something like that.

I think that [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name] is incredibly gorgeous!

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Dot[/name] is a bit to wordy, from my perspective - I imagine a purple spot. I don’t especially like the flow of [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dottie[/name]

If you’re hesitant to use [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name] for whatever reason, even though I really do think it sounds beautiful, perhaps you might like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dorothea[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Theodora[/name] as an alternative? [name]Theodora[/name] is derived from the same elemants as [name]Dorothy[/name], just in a different order.

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name] is pretty but does seem a little dated. [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dottie[/name] is too “t” heavy. I think [name]Violet[/name] [name]Thea[/name] would be gorgeous!

I love [name]Violet[/name]! I think just [name]Dot[/name] is adorable for a MN, but my problem with [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dot[/name] isn’t that it sounds like violet.com or something but that the “T” endings in [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Dot[/name] are too rhymey/abrupt (and it sounds like you’re describing the color of a dot!). I think [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name] is nice… I also like the suggestions of [name]Violet[/name] [name]Dora[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Thea[/name].
