Middle name for a Rosamund?

Hi everyone!

I’m a longtime lurker but finally decided to jump in! Hope to contribute to a lot of threads here in the future as I’m a name enthusiast myself.

My daughter will be a Rosamund, and we’re looking for a middle name to go with it. I’m wondering if perhaps you can help us narrow down on our list.

Rosamund Olivia
Rosamund Isabella/Isabelle
Rosamund Isolde
Rosamund Florence
Rosamund Elise
Rosamund Iris
Rosamund Aspen

As you can see, I really love feminine names and nature-related names. (When I think of Rosamund, I think of green or blue for some reason.)

Especially for Aspen and Florence, her brother’s middle name is a nature and place name too, so they will match so well. I like that both Aspen and Florence have connections to “resurrection” (in that Aspen trees shed and revitalize themselves and Florence was the birth place of the Renaissance - literally meaning rebirth - art). I’m a bit cautious though since I’ve seen a lot of negative comments on Aspen on the web, from ass-pen and ass-pain to aspirin, which I can’t associate with the name at all - but I’d love to hear your thoughts on the name!

Olivia is gorgeous and has the connection to Shakespeare and nature that I love, but her brother probably knows dozens of Olivias already, so it’s wearing off a bit in my mind even though I keep going back to it.

Iris is beautiful with the van Gogh reference.

Isabella has always been my favorite and I love the Italian flair, but like with Olivia, I’m a bit cautious due to the popularity.

As for Isolde, I absolutely love it, but I can’t help seeing “I sold” or “Rosamund Is Old.”

Elise was an alternative to Elizabeth/Elisabeth (because Elizabeth Taylor’s middle name was Rosemond) that I came up with.

Edit: I also really love Rosamund Claudia because the name makes me think of clouds for some reason even though I know it has nothing to do with clouds haha. I love the (probably) truer meaning of the name, to enclose, as in clause.

What do you all think?

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are so gorgeous!! [name_u]Florence[/name_u] brings a lovely vintage elegance and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] brings a sweet sharpness

@Greyblue They are! Really love all these names - it’s so hard to pick one. :sob: Thank you for your response!

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] would be my pick as it sounds beautiful and also as [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] is a fairly long name, I think the shorter [name_f]Iris[/name_f] compliments it well

I also like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f] & [name_u]Florence[/name_u]!

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] gets my vote, it’s such an elegant, ethereal combination! [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Claudia[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] (I prefer this spelling or even Isobel) are beautiful too.

In regards to [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], I think the problem with it is that it feels exceptionally different in style to [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] is classical, grand and literary whilst [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] feels a bit too modern when placed next to it. There’s an incongruity to me when I see [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Aspen[/name_u]. In saying that, [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] is obviously a (very lovely) place and I love the link to the idea of resurrection so if it’s your favourite pairing I say go for it.

Good luck!

[name_f]Rosemund[/name_f] Iris!! I love the van gogh reference. Out of all of them I love rosemund [name_f]Iris[/name_f] the best, rosemund [name_u]Florence[/name_u] is my second favorite

You have many beautiful options here and I love [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]!

[name_f]My[/name_f] least favorite is [name_u]Aspen[/name_u]. I think the sound of [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] is off - the repeating “n” ending doesn’t work for me.

I’d probably cut [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] next. I’m not the biggest fan of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and again the flow is a little off. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is nice but your “meaning” behind the name is least compelling to me.

I adore [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] and I love the vibe it has next to [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], but the repeating “z” sounds is not my favorite. Personally I think my love for [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] outweighs the flow issue, though! [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] is really nice but I think I prefer a two-syllable middle for [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f].

The remaining would be my top picks:
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - I often find that top ten names are so well-used as firsts that they feel a little fresh and unexpected as middles!
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u] are my favourites! Very beautiful names. I’d choose the one that flows better with your last name.

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] is so beautiful and an old favorite of mine! I love to see others considering her :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are my favorites for you, with your son’s name! And [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] is really pretty, too!

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is also beautiful, but doesn’t flow very well. If that doesn’t matter to you as much, though, I vote for it as well!

Thank you all SO MUCH for your responses!

@LouC I agree that the shorter [name_f]Iris[/name_f] looks gorgeous & flows so well with the longer [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]!

@TDFM After reading your response, I can definitely see that [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] could feel a bit out of place next to [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]. I loved it for one night and it kinda started wearing off in my mind hahaha. I still love it but agree that it doesn’t sound right as a middle name for [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]. Perhaps will save it for when I have another child

@melina.k Yes!!! [name_u]Happy[/name_u] that a lot of you are appreciating the beauty of [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and its connection to van Gogh, by far my favorite artist of all time

@QuirkFlower I agree with all of your reasoning behind why each name gets crossed out and why some work better than others! [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] was one of my favorites for a long time but now I’m getting a little tired of hearing it. :frowning: It’s still a beautiful name, but I totally agree that it’s a real mouthful when you try to say it with [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]! I love [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] too, but do you think it sounds like [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] Is Old when you say it out loud? I can’t unhear it now that someone close to me has mentioned it hahaha. :sob:

@Iris_Claire Down to [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_u]Florence[/name_u] now! Both flow well with my last name, so it’s really difficult to choose one of them. :sob: I would use both as middle names (like [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u] or [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u] Iris) but I think it’s a bit of a mouthful since [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] is quite weighty.

@novembermom Yay!! [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] :slight_smile:

@Strawberry.Bunny Thank you for wishing me luck! (I really love your name, by the way - [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite 007 character & actress!!)

@Johannaa & @JessicaDougall Wow I’m really torn between [name_u]Florence[/name_u] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] now!! :sob:

@18_25 With all the love I’m getting for [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_u]Florence[/name_u], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is really pretty too! The only thing that I consider a “turn-off” is its huge popularity but who knows, years later [name_f]Iris[/name_f] or [name_u]Florence[/name_u] could be #1!

@winterara Rosamund has been my favorite for as long as I can remember, love to see that there are others who love it too!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Good thing my husband loves Rose, it took me a while to convince him of the “mund” ending but we were able to find a middle ground for its nicknames Rose, Rosie, Romee, etc. haha. The names you mentioned are all of the ones that I’m currently leaning toward - Florence and Iris, maybe Olivia and Claudia.

@Ehrob1 Really love Elise too! I’m a bit sad about it not flowing quite well with my last name :sob:

@snowmaiden Rosamund Florence & Rosamund Iris are getting lots of votes!! So hard to pick one :sob:

Haha now I’m so tempted to get her two middle names, but as a person with two middle names myself, I wanted to give her one to avoid all the hassles that come with having two middle names. Both Iris and Florence are so beautiful with Rosamund!
