recently started on my journey for IVF to be a single mom by choice, so I have no one to really bounce names off of or tell me no. This has led to me seriously looking at my names list and what I would actually use.
I have a very clear front runner for a boy (Clifford [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] “Kit” or [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] “Sully”), but for a girl I’m not as sure if I want to go with full name [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or just nickname [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is an honor name for my mom, but I just love the way [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] sounds, so best of both worlds. But I worry about her gaining the nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f] down the line. Last name starts with a J and is a common boy’s name but plural (2 syllables)
Then for middle name choices I just don’t know which would sound best together. Here are some options with any opinions I have. Please feel free to suggest anything
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] - like how it sounds with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] but not necessarily [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_m]Francis[/name_m] / [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] - [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] seems very long
[name_m]Robin[/name_m] - honors my dad/grandpa, but prefer on a boy
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] - my cats name is [name_m]Louis[/name_m] so this is probably out
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Fawn[/name_f]
Open to any comments/suggestions/advice/criticism lol. Let me know your thoughts on [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] vs [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and what middles you think sound best
I personally would use Adelaide nn Daisy because I find Adelaide so romantic and chic and more versatile as a name throughout all the ages and stages. That and I think you can get the best of both words and get Daisy (and maybe even Laidy/Lady if that becomes appealing) and basically insist that Addy is not an option (I really don’t like Addy either). I think Daisy is a lovely name, and if you choose it, you’ll win too, I just prefer the French beauty of Adelaide overall.
Daisy Marceline
Daisy Eloise
Daisy Louise (think link to cat is sweet!)
Daisy Louisa
Daisy Elspeth
Daisy Robin
I like your short middles but not as much with Daisy - eg Daisy Jane is sweet but it reminds me of Daisy chains or Mary Janes. Too cutesy, I like a bit more formality.
Edit: also: Adelaide Fleur or Adelaide Flora could be good - with the middle name giving even more weight to the flower, Daisy.
Off topic but could Kit Robin or Robin Kit nn Kit be a boys’ name? I like the idea of honouring your dad somehow - if that’s important. I find Clifford and Sullivan both great names but possibly too similar to each other, but that’s another topic!
I’d probably use [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], mostly because I do love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and that gives you the best of both. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is gorgeous on its own too, so you can’t go wrong, but [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is my personal choice.
For middles, I’m liking:
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] ‘Daisy’ (elegant and sophisticated)
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] ‘Daisy’ (I think it’s acceptable to name a baby after a cat )
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] (so pretty)
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] (lovely!)
I think overall, [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] are my faves, which doesn’t totally narrow it down!
Congratulations on beginning your journey to become a new mom!
[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts on [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] vs [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] are that I feel pretty confident that someone someday will call [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. It’s the most obvious nickname. I think it’s cute, but if it’s a deal breaker then go with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], although I really like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f].
For your middle name ideas, I really like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_m]Robin[/name_m].
Whenever I think of [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] the nickname [name_f]Della[/name_f] comes to mind, not [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. And then there’s [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], & [name_f]Alice[/name_f] for nicknames (Alice is a version of Adelaide)
I would go with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] “Daisy”! I wouldn’t worry too much about people using “Addie”, since she’d likely introduce herself as [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. Using a nickname exclusively worked for me, as my parents chose their favorite of the many nicknames for my name and nobody has ever called me differently, especially since most of them don’t even know my full name unless I tell them.
From your middle name list, I like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Fawn[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f], & [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]!
Some middle name ideas:
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Ruby[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Juniper[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
Congratulations, how exciting!! I love both [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and I don’t think you can go wrong. I absolutely love the name [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], so I’d go with that. It’s so vintage, sweet, and endearing. I have it on my list as a potential honor for my mom too!
Some of my favorite combinations with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as a first name:
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Jo[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Evelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] (one of my favorites )
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Annelise[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] + [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] from your list. Also, since [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] isn’t the most intuitive nickname for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], I think you could get away with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] if you want to use both of your favorites!
I actually love the idea of calling her Ladybug or Ladybird on occasion which is also part of the appeal to [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] to me
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is actually my top one, so glad others like it
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a bit too much for me as well (also because of the [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] chain)
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is great too! [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is actually another name I have considered for the first name spot, so thats a good option!
[name_m]Clifford[/name_m] is actually my maternal grandfather name and [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] is my paternal grandmother’s maiden name so those one’s are already honor names. I’ve actually considered [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] just to honor both sides of the family in one name
Thank you! You actually listed my top combos (Adelaide [name_f]Frances[/name_f] has been my go to for a while). I also really like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Marcy[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] is a really cute way to honor my dad as well
@Dragonrescuer - yea my fear is that Addie/Addy will stick. It’s not the worst, but with all the other “Ad…” names and Maddie’s I just don’t want it to get lost and be one of many in a class
[name_f]Love[/name_f] the suggestions of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]! Thank you!
@FreePalestineRahmaNa - That’s good to hear! I don’t mind [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], etc I just want to use [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as that is the honor name vs [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] if that makes sense
@daisydarcy - Thank you! That’s my thought process as well with the nickname, but you never know. I’m glad that [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is getting some love, it was my go to but I kept second guessing it. I also love [name_f]Fawn[/name_f] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f], a weird “F” middle name love I guess lol. From your suggestions I love [name_f]Briar[/name_f] and [name_f]Merida[/name_f]!
@namenerddoglover Thank you! It’s funny a lot of the names in your combos are names I can’t use because I have a huge family (I have around 50 first cousins and they’ve started to have kids too). Still bitter about not being able to use [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]! It was my top name for a very long time
@mololy I’m sorry you’re not able to use [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] especially. I think it’s so beautiful! I know you’ll find the perfect name for your child.
Personally I prefer Daisy over Adelaide as it’s more simple, vintage, & easy to spell. People may automatically jump to Addie at school unless she specifies Daisy. Adelaide is pretty but for some reason reminds me of Cool aid the drink.
Daisy Eloise is absolutely stunning
Also Clifford has always been at the top of my boys list, it’s so underrated!!! It’s one of the cutest grandpa names ever with the nn Cliff!! People never show it love so that’s so refreshing to see!!! He will be one of the only Clifford’s of his generation! I think Sullivan is more trendy
@aylacoggins Thank you! [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is my current favorite if I go with just [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]! And thank you for the [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] love! I think it’s so cute and cuddly and do like that he’d be one of a kind really in terms of names. [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] is one that def got weirdly popular over the years
@Julie_NameNerd Thank you! Everyone is just picking out my favorite pairs for first and middles, makes me feel better about my list! And thanks for the [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] love! I get such mixed reactions (especially with the [name_m]Kit[/name_m] nickname) I’ve recently considered [name_m]Robin[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as middles (Theodore just to get the “t” for [name_m]Kit[/name_m] and I just love the name)
Ohhh I adore [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]! She’s on my own short list. Seems like there’s a lot of nns people love for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] (Addie, [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Lady[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], etc., are all ones I have heard regularly), so I don’t think [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would be too hard to enforce. You have a lot of nice options! I like:
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (probably my favorite, [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is the kind of name I like as a middle for Adelaide!)
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Fawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
If not [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is probably my favorite, it goes really nicely with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! (Also love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] but I agree it is long.)
Thank you! I am so wishy-washy on [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] because I love how bouncy it sounds but think it might not be the best flow and I can’t quite articulate why. I love [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] as a middle for both [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and it is still a contender, I just think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] is a lot to fill out on a form lol (Adelaide is already about as long as my first and middle name combined)
Hmm; my [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] combo is a letter longer than [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f]? So I don’t notice it too much (Adelaide [name_f]Maria[/name_f] Islay), but I can see your concern. It’s just as long as [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], which doesn’t seem bad to me. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f]!
