My husband and I have a baby boy due in [name_u]December[/name_u], and we’ve decided on the first name [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] (pronounced uh-lar-ik). We are having troubles coming up with middle names to even consider at this point, and I was hoping maybe all the Berries might have some thoughts.
A one syllable middle name sounds very strange with our last name, because they tend to run together and make one word. That’s about it.
I tend to like more unusual names (I still think we should name him [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] but my husband says no way), and my husband tends toward the more traditional (He wanted [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], which I said no way to as we have a nephew with that middle name already). So I suppose we just need suggestions now!
I love [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]! It’s my number one name for a boy. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know that is incorrect pronunciation? I fell in love with that one until I found out from two different people who have use [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], other name nerds and research that it’s actually [name_m]Al[/name_m]-uh-rik. I go back and forth on which pronunciation to use because I’m big on using the correct ones, but I love the incorrect one. I think if I end up using it as a first name I’ll use the correct pronunciation [name_m]Al[/name_m]-uh-rik, but if I use it in the middle I’ll go all guilty pleasure and use Uh-lar-ik.
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] is my current combo, but I’ve also had [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] on my list before.
@ikfly, yes, I do know it’s the incorrect pronunciation, but I’m not a very big fan of the correct one, so we’re going this route. I understand that may irk some people in the future, but it is nice to have a pop culture reference on our side (The Vampire Diaries has a character named [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] Saltzman and he say it the ‘incorrect’ way)
And oh my, so many great middles! I especially love the vein of names your running with, @AshleyJuliette. I’m kind of a sucker for those more old fashioned names, and I think they sound great with [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. I’m not sure my husband does, though.
I really appreciate everyone’s feedback!! More than you can imagine! This will definitely help me make a list of names to consider, and so far even that has been hard. We’re 28 weeks and counting! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] we figure this thing out soon
