We’ve been going around in circles and still can’t decide. With [name]Christopher[/name] being such a common first name, we’d like something far less common as the middle name. I like names that sound regal, stately, powerful, and historic. And it has to be [name]Christian[/name].
I really like names like Athanasius, Theodosius, [name]Donovan[/name] (not a [name]Christian[/name] name), [name]Zachariah[/name], and [name]Myron[/name]. We have a [name]Mac[/name]… last name. Please suggest more middle names for us to consider!
I feel as though these names don’t fit in with the names you gave as examples, but they are the best bibical names that flow well with [name]Christopher[/name] (that I can think of).
[name]Peregrine[/name]: From the Late Latin name Peregrinus, which meant “traveller”. This was the name of several early saints.(behindthename.com)
The first child born in the new world off the mayflower was named [name]Peregrine[/name] White.
I think [name]Peregrine[/name] is everything you asked for “regal, stately, powerful, and historic”
[name]Gabriel[/name]: A dime a dozen in our circles. All the archangels are. [name]Landon[/name]: Can only think of it as a last name for [name]Michael[/name]. [name]Taylor[/name]: Swift. Now a girl name. [name]Eli[/name]: Not substantial enough. [name]Chase[/name]: I only think of it as a verb. Sebastion: Like it a lot, but it is verrrrry common in our circles. [name]Luis[/name]: Like [name]Louis[/name], but it reminds me of someone I don’t like. :?
[name]Peregrine[/name]: Pointed this one out to the husband last night. I like it. It sounds a little feminine to me. Husband can’t help but think of falcons and said no.
[name]Adrian[/name]: I hear [name]Adrienne[/name] (feminine). [name]Amias[/name]: Doesn’t look like a name to me. [name]Blane[/name]: Already taken in the family. [name]Breccan[/name]: Sounds broken and harsh. [name]Cassian[/name]: Another I like that’s verrrrry popular in our circles. [name]Julian[/name]: I know it is masculine, but it sounds feminine to me. [name]Lorcan[/name]: Sounds like a medicine. Lor-tabs are medicines, aren’t they? Think that’s what I am thinking of.
Others we considered last night: [name]Alexis[/name]: Sounds like a girl’s name to me [name]Aloysius[/name]: [name]Love[/name] saying it, wouldn’t actually use it [name]Ambrose[/name]: Husband says no [name]Anastasios[/name]: Too Russian [name]Antonius[/name]: Hmmm… don’t know why it doesn’t strike a chord with me [name]Basil[/name] (Baaa-sl): Husband says no [name]Basilius[/name]: Reminds me of the basilisk [name]Demetrius[/name]: Too similar to [name]Demeter[/name] (a Greek goddess) [name]Eustace[/name]: Can only think of the CS [name]Lewis[/name] line “and he deserved it” and of eustachian tubes [name]Ignatius[/name]: [name]Kinda[/name] popular in our circles [name]Lawrence[/name]: I want to like it but don’t Methodius: I like it, but bet my husband won’t [name]Nectarius[/name]: I want to like it, but hear “neck tie-rr-ius” [name]Thaddeus[/name] - Like it, but don’t think it flows w/ [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Vincent[/name]: I like it, but [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Vincent[/name] just doesn’t pop
I think I like [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Magnus[/name] the best. It’s currently the name of the Norwegian Crown [name]Prince[/name] and his son, so it’s regal. It’s the title of St [name]Albert[/name], [name]Albertus[/name] [name]Magnus[/name], so it’s very [name]Christian[/name], Catholic and Orthodox. And it means “the great”. Can’t go wrong.
[name]Love[/name] your list, miloowen! [name]Cosimo[/name]: I hear [name]Cosmo[/name], like the magazine. [name]Damon[/name]: I know it is a saint’s name, but this and [name]Damien[/name] make me think of demons. [name]Edmund[/name]: On our short list! We like it some days and not others. [name]Hugh[/name]: Falls flat with [name]Christopher[/name]. [name]Bartholomew[/name]: I kinda like it. :ugeek: [name]Andrew[/name]: A dime a dozen here. [name]Anselm[/name]: Looks cool, but I stumble over saying it. [name]Albert[/name]: Can’t separate it from Dumbledore. [name]Magnus[/name] (from [name]Albertus[/name] [name]Magnus[/name]): Comments from our house included references to magnets, a rendition of “O Magnum Mysterium,” and Magnum, PI. Far more commentary than most names receive, so I guess that tables that one. [name]Augustine[/name]: Aside from being a name kinda popular among our circles, I don’t really like his way of thinking. I’m much more Ambrosian than Augustinian and couldn’t bring myself to name a child for him, holy though he was. …OK, rant done. LOL! [name]Thomas[/name]: [name]Lovely[/name]. A name we agree on is [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]. I’d hate to lose that one I love by using it with [name]Christopher[/name] where it doesn’t have the same magic. [name]Gregory[/name]: There’s something about the guttural sound that doesn’t appeal to me. [name]Clement[/name]: I’ve known one too many people named for virtues ([name]Charity[/name], [name]Chastity[/name], etc) who are far from embodying them. I just can’t bring myself to set a child up for the same failure. [name]Pius[/name]: Same as [name]Clement[/name]. [name]Innocent[/name]: Same as [name]Clement[/name]. [name]Sylvester[/name]: Can only think of [name]Rocky[/name]. [name]Tobias[/name] (the archangels might be taken, but it’s the story of [name]Raphael[/name] and [name]Tobias[/name]): Going on the list to ask my husband. [name]Simeon[/name]/[name]Simon[/name]: A dime a dozen here. [name]Both[/name] of them. [name]Alphonse[/name]: I like the name, but it doesn’t suit our family well. [name]Alonso[/name]: I’ve spent quite some time trying to place this name. I finally figured out that I’m thinking of Almanzo on [name]Little[/name] House. Perfectly fine name, but doesn’t suit us. Arsene: Hmmm. I don’t know what I think of that one. [name]Will[/name] add it to the list and see what I think over time. [name]Bernard[/name]: I think of a dog. [name]Cyril[/name]: Sounds like we’re trying too hard. [name]George[/name]: Too common. [name]Francis[/name]: [name]Way[/name] too common in our circles. [name]Jerome[/name]: Same as [name]Augustine[/name]. [name]Brendan[/name]: Know a few. [name]Don[/name]'t think it goes with [name]Christopher[/name]. And have a [name]Brenda[/name] in the family. [name]David[/name]: Too common. [name]Constantine[/name]: Not a nice guy.
[name]Barnabas[/name]: I think of barnacles. [name]Alaric[/name]: [name]Haven[/name]'t heard this name before. I hear choleric. [name]Clement[/name]: [name]Lovely[/name], but I won’t use virtue names for fear they’ll be the opposite. [name]Leonidas[/name]: Is that the name of the lion on Between the Lions? [name]Benedict[/name]: Quite common among our circle, otherwise I’d love it. [name]Amadeus[/name]: I really like it. I can hear my husband already. “Like [name]Mozart[/name]?” We’ve probably had that conversation. Back on the list and I’ll try again, though! [name]Malcolm[/name]: in the middle. [name]Ananias[/name]: Like it, but stumble over it. [name]Obadiah[/name]: I L.O.V.E. saying [name]Obadiah[/name]. [name]Obadiah[/name]. [name]Obadiah[/name]. Yeah, my husband would never go for it. [name]Roland[/name]: [name]Don[/name]'t care for it. [name]Augustus[/name]: I didn’t think I liked it. Definitely wouldn’t choose it as a first name. But [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Augustus[/name] sounds kinda nice. Going on the list. [name]Hiram[/name]: Sounds like harem. [name]Eamon[/name]: Like it. Doubt my husband will. We’ll see! [name]Magnus[/name]: See above post. [name]Philemon[/name]: I like it alright. I also like Panteleon and Panteleimon. My husband squinches up his nose at them. [name]Theophilus[/name]: Like it. Know my husband won’t. [name]Cedric[/name]: I know my husband will say Diggory. [name]Galileo[/name]: Nah. [name]Julius[/name]: All the [name]Juli[/name]- names sound feminine to me. [name]Leopold[/name]: I like it. My husband doesn’t. [name]Andreas[/name]: Sounds feminine to me, too. [name]Romulus[/name]: I think [name]Star[/name] Trek. [name]Hugo[/name]: Would hate it if he ever struggled with weight. [name]Aurelius[/name]: Looks feminine. [name]Zebulon[/name]: I love X and Z names. My husband… not so much. Give me more and I might win him over!
