Hello all! I am due in May with my third and trying to figure out a middle name for Daphne. My first two are named Thomas James and Arthur Francis. I actually don’t know the gender, and I won’t until I give birth, so I am just trying to make sure I’ve got a solid boy name and girl name.
For a boy, I love Henry David! Primarily because I am a big fan of Henry David Thoreau, who wrote Walden.
For a girl, I love Daphne, but I am not too sure what middle name to give her. My short list are:
Daphne Sylvia (The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath is one of my fav books)
Daphne Louise/Louisa (I also love Louisa May Alcott, because I am one of four sisters)
Daphne Lenore (Edgar Allan Poe reference)
Daphne Mabel
Daphne Charlotte (Charlotte Brontë is another one of my favs)
I am open to other name suggestions! If you can’t already tell, I am a bit of a bookworm, so classic literary names are definitely preferred.
You have wonderful taste. I love your boys’ names, and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is spectacular. I’m partial to [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] as a middle, for the same reason you noted–Little Women is one of my very favorite books.
I don’t think you need more suggestions at all. BUT, since I love your names and love [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], I made a list for my own enjoyment.
Congratulations! Your boys’ names are beautiful, and Daphne goes wonderfully with them It’s a hard choice, all of your combos are lovely! I really like the sound of Daphne Sylvia, I think the fact that both names have a nature connection gives it this subtle but pretty whimsical feel, while still feeling very classic! Daphne Mabel is also sweet, and Daphne Louisa wonderful and sunny. They’re my top 3 for sure!
Some more ideas:
Daphne Annabel (inspired by my own favourite E.A. Poe poem!)
Daphne Estella (in case you also like Dickens haha)
Daphne Eleanor / Daphne Eleonora
Daphne Josephine
Daphne Colette
Daphne Margaux
Daphne Elodie
Daphne Rosalie / Daphne Rosalind / Daphne Rosamund
Daphne Amalia
Daphne Beatrix
Daphne Georgina
Daphne Juliette
I am a big fan of [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Allan[/name_m] [name_f]Poe[/name_f]! Have you watched the [name_f]Fall[/name_f] of the House of [name_m]Usher[/name_m] on Netflix?
I am definitely leaning towards [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] the most for sure. [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] Plath was just one of those authors/poets that had such a great influence on me in my formative years.
I’m currently crushing on [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] so much! [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] combos are [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] Giselle/ Gisele/ [name_f]Gisela[/name_f]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] is such a lovely addition to your set, as is [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
Of your options, I’m enjoying:
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] → floral and lovely
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] → elegant, balanced and classic (and maybe I’m a bit biased because [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] wrote one of my fave books )
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] → bright and classic and I like it a lot!
I know right! [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is such a lovely name.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] is beautiful, and I would’ve considered it but my last name directly translates to flowers in Spanish. Otherwise [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] would’ve been on my list.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] your names (although [name_m]Thoreau[/name_m] was originally [name_f]David[/name_f] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], lol)!
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is a favorite of mine because of [name_f]Du[/name_f] Maurier, and your middles are all terrific. Also, [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] was the only surviving daughter of poet [name_f]James[/name_f] [name_m]Russell[/name_m] [name_f]Lowell[/name_f], who iimmortalized her in “The First Snowfall.”)
Some other suggestions -
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Amabel[/name_f] (a [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] Michaels novel, [name_f]Ammie[/name_f] Come Home)
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] – love this; my daughter’s middle is [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] (Rosamund Pilcher, great writer)
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] (Shakespearean name)
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (since you’re a CB fan) or [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (have you read [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] Holtby?)
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (for [name_m]Potter[/name_m], love this too)
I did almost go with [name_f]David[/name_f] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but I just love [name_m]Henry[/name_m]! [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] du Maurier was the reason I chose [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] too. I am a fan of [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Pan[/name_m] as well, and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] du Maurier is actually related to the five brothers that inspired JM [name_f]Barrie[/name_f] to create [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Pan[/name_m].
Yes, I know – big [name_f]Du[/name_f] Maurier fan here. However, a major biography of her indicated that [name_f]Barrie[/name_f] was responsible for major childhood trauma for her & the cousins.
My D@phne has an honor name for her middle. However, if I hadn’t used the honor name, I would have used Rebecca. Big nod to Du Maurier! I also really like D@phne Jane or D@phne Charlotte in tribute to Charlotte Brontë!
Honestly, one of the reasons I considered [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (other than because of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Brontë) is because my dog, is named after [name_f]David[/name_f] [name_m]Crosby[/name_m] of [name_m]Crosby[/name_m], Stills, [name_m]Nash[/name_m] and [name_m]Young[/name_m]. Also why [name_f]David[/name_f] is on my list if baby #3 is a boy!
