My husband and I have finally chosen a name for our baby girl… [name]Emersyn[/name]!
Now the hard part: the middle name.
We’re having trouble finding something that flows well with [name]Emersyn[/name] and our last name (two syllables, ends with -ley). We don’t want something like [name]Hope[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]Faith[/name], etc.
[name]Emersyn[/name] is adorable!!! I love the “syn” spelling, like i like madisyn alot better than [name]Madison[/name]. I like [name]Emersyn[/name] Cave and [name]Emersyn[/name] [name]Justice[/name]
Ugh, [name]Emersyn[/name] is so masculine and the -yn ending is so overly trendy.
If you must, I would put something very classic and timeless and definitely feminine, in the middle. [name]Emersyn[/name] [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Emersyn[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Emersyn[/name] [name]Victoria[/name].
So I suppose you’re not a fan of virtue or word names in general?
I’m just going to fill in your surname with an [name]Austen[/name] surname that comes to mind - just so that it looks complete to me.
To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of [name]Emersyn[/name] - I would really suggest at least using [name]Emerson[/name]. The “Y” spelling is very trendy and not as unique as you probably think.
I guess it depends how she is pronouncing it though, because when I see [name]Emerson[/name] I say “[name]Emer[/name]-[name]SON[/name]” but when I see the y, I think “[name]Emer[/name]-SIN”
So depending on what sound you go with, I think the spelling does matter somewhat… I also agree that [name]Emerson[/name]/[name]Emersyn[/name] is a bit too masculin for a girl… but if you really like the name, then I would suggest a girly middle name like:
That spelling is terrible. It just looks bad. Seeing -syn would make me pronounce it emer-SIN.
You definetly need a feminine, correctly spelled name to balance that out
Please do not use the -syn spelling. It will date your daughter’s name, and it is not as unique as you’re probably thinking. There were 390 girls named “[name]Emersyn[/name]” born in 2011, not including the hundreds of others given another spelling of the name. They are all pronounced the same.
We are using -syn and it will be pronounced as “sin.” We aren’t going for anything unique, we just fell in love with the name. Thank you to everyone who responded to my actual post. The middle names you guys offered were great suggestions and we’re narrowing it down!
[name]Emer[/name]-sin ([name]Emersyn[/name]) isn’t actually a name though, and to be honest everyone will call her [name]Emerson[/name] no matter the pronunciation you want. [name]Emersyn[/name]/[name]Emerson[/name]/Emersin are the all the same. Why not [name]Emmeline[/name] prn. [name]Emma[/name]-lin, it’s just one letter differene and actually a girl’s name?!
Please, for all that is just and right in the world, reconsider the -syn spelling. The PPs are right. It will not change the pronunciation of her name, but it will cause her lots of issues with having her name misspelled, date her name (rather that having something timeless), as well as possibly convey the message to others that she is uneducated and part of a lower socioeconomic class.
To be honest, I don’t think that spelling her name with a “y” is making it seem like we are uneducated. We don’t want to use [name]Emerson[/name] because our son is [name]Weston[/name]. My original post was looking for a middle name, not asking for your opinion on the first name we have picked out. The first name is set in stone, so all of you trying to convince me that it’s a bad choice are just being rude. I really don’t care if you don’t like the name, or if it’s not a girls’ name, because we love it and you should all respect that. This website wasn’t made for you to bash people’s ideas, it was made for advice. If I was contemplating her first name, then I would take your opinions into consideration. But that wasn’t why I posted, so I’d appreciate it if you all stopped bashing our choice.
It is a name. Anything can technically be a name. I mean people name their children [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Violet[/name] and those are considered names even though they are technically plants. I just wanted to throw that out there.
Also as I said earlier, if I saw [name]Emersyn[/name], I would pronounce it as “sin” Maybe I am in the minority, but I feel I can’t be the only one who would say “sin” vs “son” and even if it is mispronounced, you can easily correct the other person.
I agree with the poster though, she didn’t come to get opinions on her first name, but wanted middle names.
