Thank you all so much for your naming help! I’ve posted about our little [name_u]Fern[/name_u] and all my indecisiveness! We’ve called her [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] for months (she’s due in a few weeks). We’re leaning now towards keeping [name_u]Fern[/name_u] as a first name but changing the middle towards one that honors someone on my side of the family (both [name_u]Fern[/name_u] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] honor late great grandmothers on my husband’s side of the family). We follow Jewish naming traditions of honoring late loved ones by using the first letter from their names.
[name_u]Or[/name_u] anything else with a P or R? We also had a challenging journey towards this pregnancy and would consider a middle that honors how much she was wanted… so [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]? We’re open to two middle names as well but my older children just have one.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite would be [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] but if you are leaning towards one middle, I’d say [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] are super cute

Overall, I think you should go with 2 middles! [name_f]Julia[/name_f] is beautiful especially with [name_u]Fern[/name_u] and you could still have another meaningful middle name. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favorite is [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]!
I really love [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and I would be inclined to use two middle names. I think [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] is so lovely and I love the idea of [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] the sentiment behind the name is lovely. However as someone who followed Jewish naming customs when it came to naming my own child I appreciate the importance behind wanting to use a name beginning with the same letters as loved ones. So I think it depends on whether you want to pay homage to your fertility journey or use a P or R name to honour relatives.
Looking at your honour options I love both your ideas [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] feels elegant, graceful and timeless. [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] would be gorgeous so classic. I also really love the bohemian flair of [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] she’s bright, whimsical and has a sweet pixie flair. I prefer [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_u]Jules[/name_u]. [name_u]Jules[/name_u] would honour just like [name_f]Julia[/name_f] but I think has a better flow. I do appreciate that using two middle names could be a bit of a jump so will suggest combinations that are a mixture of both
Thank you all so much! I wish I could have a hundred daughters names [name_u]Fern[/name_u] for all these lovely ideas!
We decided ! [name_u]Fern[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] it is! [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is after a great aunt of mine who was truly courageous and heroic and bold, and I’m so excited to pass that legacy onto my daughter.
So glad you’re keeping [name_u]Fern[/name_u]!
I just named a baby for the first time (girl), and choosing a girl’s name was this big compromising game for us. I felt lucky we came to any agreement at all, and now that name is my absolute favorite i love saying it, love hearing it, and the more i say and hear it the more i love it.
I think the name is gonna go on that little girl and you’re going to be just as enamoured with the name as you are with her… people are going to start drooling over the name and it’s gonna make you like it even more!
Congratulations on your blessing, girls are the best, and don’t forget to announce her arrival in that section once she’s here!
