What is a name besides [name]Grace[/name] that sounds good with [name]Finley[/name]?
I’ll be honest, when I saw the title for this post I had to do a double take that it was on the girl names board. It’s perhaps a cultural thing, but where I live [name]Finley[/name]/[name]Finlay[/name] is 100% masculine.
Therefore, any middle name for a little girl called [name]Finley[/name] should be obviously feminine in my opinion to avoid confusion.
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Emma[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Helena[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Reese[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Skye[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
i personally like…
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Briana[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Adeline[/name]
I think [name]Finley[/name] can definitely be a girls name, but I do think it needs a feminine middle name since it is unisex. I think [name]Finley[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] sounds lovely (I know I am on a [name]Maeve[/name] kick, but I do think it is a great mn as well), but for whatever reason, I really like [name]Finley[/name] Hales, which isnt as feminine but flows nicely to me. Best of luck to you! =)
A good middle name with [name]Finley[/name] would be any boys name. It is a boys name, perhaps [name]Roger[/name].
I agree that [name]Finley[/name] has a feminine edge to it but if you must use it put it in the mn position and it could be used as a professional name eg
Ms [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Finley[/name] [name]Smith[/name]
It it were me I would choose [name]Phoebe[/name] or another beautiful feminine name over [name]Finley[/name].
I think in the US, [name]Finley[/name] and names ending in -ley are becoming overwhelmingly female. For instance, this is the same person who “feminized” [name]Hansen[/name] to Hansley. [name]Shirley[/name] and [name]Kimberley[/name] and [name]Ashley[/name] are also girls names, and it is now really filling out the trend - names that end in -ley are all seeming fit for girls. So I wouldn’t get too attached to these names for your son.
I’ve actually never heard the name before I posted here, and feel that it’s not really anyone’s name, like [name]Bailey[/name] or [name]Riley[/name] might be. I’ve heard of [name]Findlay[/name], but I would read that as a literal pun and avoid it! According to wikipedia, there are at least 2 young men with this name ([name]Finley[/name]) who are famous enough to have a wiki page but I don’t think they are famous in the US, or I am too old - a distinct possibility. I don’t think it became popular again until girls’ parents started looking for those -ley names like [name]Ashley[/name] but not so dated. I don’t think this is the part where we criticize someone’s choice, since it’s well-supported by the trend in the US. It’s not one person’s “fault” -ley names come off sounding feminine.
That said, I agree, a feminine middle name would be great, but since the trend is toward girls having names like [name]Finley[/name], and I don’t think anyone will be confused, and most people won’t know her middle name ever, you can choose anything that you like. I don’t really know what other names you like, I don’t get a good read on what other kinds of names would appeal to you. [name]Do[/name] you have any women in your family you’d like to honor? That’s what I would do.
Here is the list of “Cool Middle Names” Cool Unique Middle Names | Nameberry
They are mostly the one-syllable names that will sound as good as [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Grace[/name] without being predictable.
For longer names, I would avoid any that end with a -ley or -ee sound (like [name]Marie[/name] or [name]Chloe[/name]), any that begin with an F (like [name]Francesca[/name] or [name]Felicity[/name] or [name]Faye[/name]) or a first or last syllable that rhymes (or close to rhyming) with [name]Fin[/name] (like [name]Cynthia[/name] or [name]Penelope[/name] or [name]Catherine[/name]). Names that are hard to say: [name]Finley[/name] [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Finley[/name] [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Finley[/name] [name]Caroline[/name], these seem ok but have a little too much of the tongue-twister to seem right. Names with too much L or N in them will clash in general, say them out loud. Names that begin with a vowel are also going to run together: [name]Finley[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is going to sound like Finlelizabeth.
[name]Finley[/name] isn’t my choice, but I think it could be a nice name. I don’t know what to suggest for a middle name that someone else didn’t already say. My tastes are less “old-lady” kind of over-romanticized long-ish names you might read in an old book. I mean, sometimes, but I’ll try to think of something that’s really going to sound ok. You still could post some other names that appeal to you, anything that you like is going to sound better with [name]Finley[/name] than a random suggestion that merely sounds nice. Try every name you like with [name]Finley[/name] and see if it sounds good.
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Teresa[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] Marcelline
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Diana[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Katrina[/name]
I don’t know what other names really appeal to you and how to make that work. My suggestions are so random. [name]Finley[/name] [name]Grace[/name] sounds nice also. I don’t know why you don’t pick that if you like it, unless you are saying that you don’t.
Like I mentioned on another thread, I am in the camp with those who prefer [name]Finley[/name] as a boy’s name (sorry if all you were wanting was middle name ideas, but with this debate going I wanted to give my opinion).

[name]Finley[/name] [name]Winifred[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
love [name]Finley[/name] [name]Forest[/name]! As long as your last name doesn’t have an “F” or two syllables.
Thanks for the suggestions,
We do love [name]Finley[/name] [name]Esme[/name] but would like to use a family name here are some that are left lol…i have a big family and am the last one having kids!!
[name]Matilda[/name], [name]Madeleine[/name], Wilamina, [name]Ethel[/name], Violett, [name]Florance[/name]
Awfully rude for people to rain on your [name]Finley[/name] parade. [name]Finley[/name] is my dad’s name and we have it on the list for our unborn daughter. I love [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] as middle names with it.
lol…jen! I know but I’m use to it! You should of heard them when I asked about Hansley for a name…oh well! That is so neat your dad’s name is [name]Finley[/name] I think it works either way! It’s such a neat name…I just love it : ) I do love [name]Kate[/name] as a mn and [name]Eve[/name] is pretty to…
So far we have
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] (after my grandmother)
[name]Finley[/name] Violett ( family name)
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Lucia[/name] ???
just not sure yet it’s a hard one to find a name that goes perfect with it…these just don’t seem to flow
My daughter’s name is [name]Finley[/name] [name]Reese[/name]. I was going to use [name]Finley[/name] [name]Grace[/name] until I read an article about [name]Grace[/name] & [name]Rose[/name] becoming ‘filler’ middle names such as [name]Ann[/name] & [name]Lynn[/name] of my mother’s generation… made me do a double take! I wanted a one syl. middle name, decided on [name]Reese[/name] very quickly. I did like [name]Finley[/name] [name]Paige[/name], but decided on [name]Reese[/name]. Everyone that sees her name on my station at work (I cut hair) comments about it… about 95% I hear about how beautiful it is & how much they love it. The other 5% say they like it but it’s different. I know that, but I loved it. I live in the deep south & like I said, I cut hair - you all would be AMAZED to hear some of the names I hear on a daily basis. That being said, please spare me the ‘[name]Finley[/name]/[name]Finlay[/name] is a boy’s name’ comments. I read it all before I named her that, at the risk of sounding rude, I don’t really care and it didn’t change my opinion!
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Ray[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Harper[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Shannon[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]August[/name]
hmm I juts read all these comments after I posted my own, and I must say… To me, [name]Finley[/name] is very feminine, the ending “[name]Lee[/name]” is very girly to me… and I dunno… in my mind when I picture a [name]Finley[/name] I always, always think of a little girl… I think I would be more shocked to meet a boy named [name]Finley[/name]. but, thats just me… and I think the name is so beautiful either way.
The one and only downfall is its increasingly HUGE popularity!!! I think it is the new versions of 80s names like [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Katie[/name], [name]Ashley[/name], etc…
“finleyisaboysname”:
Why do you feel it necessary to be so rude? What does it matter to you what the op decides to name her child. You have an extremely nasty attitude, and your sarcasm was unnecessary.
I think it’s fine to use on a girl (because it’s becoming more of a unisex name), but I would pair it with a feminine, more traditional middle name to balance it out.
