Please help us choose a middle name for our little one due [name_f]July[/name_f] 31!
Middle names of current and possible future children include [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. I’d love to have something that matches these and maybe even has a pleasant meaning; however, my partner is rather picky and doesn’t fancy anything too “out there”. He likes the name [name_m]Angus[/name_m] (I’m not super keen, TBH), but then our son’s initials would be G.A.E. There’s nothing wrong with being gae/gay, of course, but we don’t want to set him up for possible teasing down the road, y’know?
Anyway, we basically have nothing beyond the following two names:
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] E____
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Basil[/name_m] E____ ([name_m]Basil[/name_m] pronounced [name_m]BAZ[/name_m]-il, not like the herb…)
[name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] are two of my personal favorites, but I’m not crazy about them together. [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Basil[/name_m] are perfectly fine names, but they’re so stately that they feel a bit stern. I would choose something a bit lighter for [name_m]George[/name_m]'s middle name. Ideas:
I really like [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] Very handsome. I’m not so keen on [name_m]Basil[/name_m] myself. What about a few more vintage/classics…
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] was on my list until the royals nabbed it, and I’m still searching for a replacement I like as much.
To match [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] I’d go with a middle that’s vintage in style.
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is great.
WDYT of [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]? It’s similar to [name_m]Angus[/name_m] in a way or maybe [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]?
You mention a number of great names that I love but can’t/won’t use for one reason or another. Friends just named their little one [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and my partner has vetoed an alarming number of names. He does love [name_u]Francis[/name_u], but it’s too “steeped in Pope” for my liking.
The problem with [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is that if we have a future son we wouldn’t be able to use [name_m]Edward[/name_m] as a first name, and there are few boys’ names we like…
I personally don’t find [name_m]Basil[/name_m] too serious with [name_m]George[/name_m], but maybe that’s because I’m in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]? It’s a valid point to consider, though. It certainly doesn’t have the lightness of some other choices.
I love the sound of [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] as a sibset!
Personally I would avoid [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] (as it sounds like two first names put together)
G.A.E initials are not the best, but could be worse (I could give endless examples here). If you love the A name above all else then it trumps.
[name_m]Basil[/name_m] is nms but [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Basil[/name_m] flows well.
I agree to save [name_m]Edward[/name_m] for a future son if its the only one you and DH equally love as it can be hard to find another that meets all the criteria and [name_m]George[/name_m] & [name_m]Edward[/name_m] make great brothers.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] - love this combo!! So handsome.
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
