3.5 weeks 'til my scheduled c-section… and I’m stressing about middle names!
I think we’ve settled on [name]Leo[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] if it’s a boy, and [name]Hazel[/name] for a girl.
I feel like I have of an idea what kind of middle name I want for [name]Hazel[/name]. I think for me, is had to be 3-4 syllables, with stress on the second syllable (e.g. [name]Amanda[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Samantha[/name], etc.) I did this for my daughter’s name as well, which is [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Cecelia[/name] G. Our last name starts with G and is one syllable.
Here are a few contenders. Any thoughts or other suggestions? I can’t say I love any of these ones…
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Naomi[/name] G. (current favourite, but is [name]Naomi[/name] too “out there”? I know technically it’s a timeless name… will other people see it that way too or will they view it as exotic?)
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] G. (second favourite, except husband says “[name]Felicity[/name]” sounds like an STD to him - wtf?)
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] G. (we both like this ok, but I really don’t love [name]Penelope[/name]. Makes me think of piggies.)
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] G. (like this ok…)
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] G. (like this ok…)
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]: I love it, beautiful name and good rhythm with [name]Hazel[/name]. I don’t think it seems particularly exotic. It is rhythmic and lilting, but it’s in the top 100 in the US and top 200 in the UK. It’s in the bible. There’s [name]Naomi[/name] Watts, [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Campbell[/name], and [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Judd[/name]. It’s a familiar enough name. I don’t think it’s too out there.
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Felicity[/name]: I think this is nice but it’s kind of a lot of word, and also some sound overlap with [name]Cecelia[/name]. I would if your husband hears iss-idd-ee (icity) as STD (ess-tee-dee). Pretty different to me. I have read on other forums that it reminds some people of ‘fellatio’ : (. I don’t hear that at all and think it’s a beautiful name, but maybe that is part of what your husband is hearing. In any case while I think it’s great I do think it’s a lot of word with [name]Hazel[/name] and you have other options.
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] - hmm, I like it and don’t have a pig connection at all, but maybe just let it go. [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Elena[/name]?
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] are both nice. Hmm, a few more second-syl stressed 3+ syllable names…
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Amalia[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Bettina[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Calista[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Edina[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Geneva[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Irena[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Katrina[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Maria[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Marissa[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Natalia[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Patricia[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Regina[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Roxana[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Samantha[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Selena[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Serena[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] (I know, super popular, but not in the middle?)
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Theodora[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Theresa[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Veronica[/name]
I really like hazel victoria, hazel penelope and hazel felicity. I think naomi is getting pretty popular and not at all too “out there”. Some other names i can think of that fit your description are:
[name]Hi[/name] jesba,
Thanks for your suggestions! I think I love [name]Naomi[/name] now Your other suggestions were good too! I like [name]Geneva[/name] and [name]Ramona[/name].
I forgot to mention we can’t use A as a mn because that spells “HAG”.
Thanks for all those suggestions! Only some of them had the correct rhythm though (stress on the second syllable). [name]Delilah[/name], [name]Delphina[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Odessa[/name], [name]Savannah[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Tallulah[/name] are good examples. The other ones all have their stress on the first syllable, e.g. [name]MAR[/name]-gar-et, [name]TAB[/name]-ith-a.
I like [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]. Though [name]Hazel[/name] is more Victorian and [name]Naomi[/name] more Biblical/Hebrew, they both feel like hazel-colored names, if that makes any sense- a bit dark and mysterious.
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Marlena[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Zahara[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Eudora[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Isolde[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Melinda[/name]
My great grandmother’s name was [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Grove[/name] which I’ve always thought was a lovely combo. [name]Hazel[/name] is really popular here though, so Im reluctant to use it.
I think [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Naomi[/name] sounds great, and [name]Naomi[/name] is definitely not too out there. I have a friend who named her daughter [name]Cora[/name] [name]Naomi[/name], and my daughter’s middle is the Spanish version, [name]Noemi[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]!
