We are not currently pregnant but are planning for Baby #3. Boy names are the hardest for us however, out of the blue, my DH decided that he actually liked Ira! Ira has been my favorite name forever but Ive placed it on the back burner because my husband just hated it but now that he has ok’d it I can officially put it on ‘the list’
But Im struggling to come up with a combo I love I tend to like more naturey names and old fashioned cozy names for boys.
Here’s my list so far…
- Ira Hawthorne
- Ira Percival
- Ira Peregrine
- Ira Wolfgang
- Ira Nicodemus
- Ira Ellis
- Ira Oaks
- Ira Frost
Wolfgang was a wild card thrown out by my husband. It was a total surprise as he’s usually a ‘Christopher & Matthew’ kind of namer.
Id love more suggestions!

I had to vote for [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m], as it’s one of my favorite middles I’ll probably never get to use
I love it with the shorter [name_u]Ira[/name_u].
(My all-time fave is [name_u]Toby[/name_u] [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m], but we went with the full [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] when we named our son–and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m] was too much S for me)

I love [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m] too, and I’d love to use it. [name_f]My[/name_f] only hesitation with [name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m] is they’re both fairly underused biblical names and it might come off as overly religious? (we are religious but that’s definitely not our naming style)
I thought of that. I guess it depends on your circles? I’m not sure how many people unfamiliar with the Bible are going to know [name_u]Ira[/name_u] (especially [name_u]Ira[/name_u], maybe?) and [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m] are both Biblical. But if you have a church circle, they’ll probably know.
I love [name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m], too.
