I am pretty set on the name Rowan for a girl, however, can’t decide on a middle name. I am worried Rowan Rose with the double “Ro” is a bit much. I also think Sloane is a bit masculine sounding with Rowan. We have a very manly sounding last name so definitely want an obvious female sounding middle name. My husband and I are on the fence with Sienna and Olivia in general. For Clara… we both like the name but pronounce it differently. He’s European and pronounces it “Clar-uh” where I pronounce it Claire-uh”. What do you all think? Thanks so much for your help!!!
Thanks! I meant to include that for [name_f]Summer[/name_f] I was worried it didn’t go well with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] sounds a bit like “Rowing” with the season of “Summer”. I am probably totally over thinking it
I really like [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I wouldn’t let your different pronunciations stop you using it if you like it.
Our daughter is called [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. I’m from the UK so I pronounce it “El-en-a”. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is from NZ and he says “El-en-noor”. Our daughter responds to both quite happily and we each pronounce it the way that seems most intuitive. I don’t think it’s going to be a problem. As she grows up she might have an opinion on which pronunciation she prefers, if so we’ll both use the one she chooses. I think the same logic would apply in your situation.
I over think like this too, but I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] & [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] all are beautiful!! [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is one of my favorite names!
I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] for you! Both classic and feminine. Maybe something like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] would solve your hesitation about pronunciation?
[name_u]Love[/name_u] all the options I personally really like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Others you could do similar to what you have already:
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Rayne[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Livia[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Allison[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Esme[/name_f]
I voted for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I think they have the best flow and are the most feminine options to balance out unisex [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and your masculine surname.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] - This is my runner-up for favorite middles. It’s beautiful, feminine, and classic without being as popular as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I think either pronunciation is lovely. If you’re not sold on [name_f]Clara[/name_f], you might try: [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Clary[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - I wouldn’t use this one for a couple of reasons. One is that it’s two word names back to back, without a third “name-name” in the combo to balance it out. That tends to read a little celebrity baby. The other is the double [name_f]Ro[/name_f] syllable that you mentioned. This one is a little harder to think of alternatives for, because if I go by the sound of [name_f]Rose[/name_f], we’ll still have that double-Ro problem, and if I go by other nature names, we’ll still have the double word name problem. Let’s see: [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Nasrin[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Zahra[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Bellerose[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Melrose[/name_f].
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] - I feel like this combo should really work, but it somehow feels a little flat to me? There’s nothing wrong with it, and it has good flow, but it doesn’t seem like you love it either. What about [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Senna[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Senara[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Serafina[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Saskia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olenna[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Aria[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Vienna[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Vivienna[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Verona[/name_f].
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] - I love the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f], and am very biased towards it, as it is my sister’s name! However, I think it’s got the same problem of a double word name, and it changes the feeling of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] from a dreamy botanical name to something reminiscent of summer rowing teams. Other options: [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Fiammetta[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Everly[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Samara[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Soleil[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Soraya[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Uma[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Amoret[/name_f].
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] - This is my least favorite option. I agree that with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], which is pretty firmly unisex, I would avoid [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] as a middle if you want something obviously femme sounding. Maybe [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Salome[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Simone[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Sinead[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Sonoma[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Solana[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Solange[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f].
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - I think out of all the combos you’re considering, this one has the best flow. I love the repeated long-O sounds and the way [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is bookended by consonants and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is bookended by vowels. If you’re on the fence about it, you might try: [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Odessa[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Viola[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Elysia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Alanna[/name_f].
I voted for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a nice name, but doesn’t really work with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. I like the name [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] too though for a girl and her nickname could be Rowa which sounds really pretty.
I voted for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] for the same reason @venezio did.
[name_f]My[/name_f] actual favourite would be [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] with the European pronunciation. I think this overall name feels very vibrant & fresh.
Good luck
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]. I didn’t notice that you were unsure about [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] sounding too wordy I think this could be an issue so this in my mind my favourite is [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] but with the European pronunciation. Changed my voted.
