[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone, I’m expecting my little bundle in [name_f]October[/name_f] and just thinking of possible names.
The one boys name that me and DH both agree on is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], however we’re having a hard time coming up with a middle name to go with it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think you guys could help out at all?
We are trying to find something that has a historical (bonus for medieval or [name_m]Tudor[/name_m]) or literary connection to it. I veer more to slightly unusual (maybe slightly hipsterish) names but it has to be something useable or else DH will never go for it. Here’s what we have so far:
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] - it’s a nice enough it’s just a bit too vanilla for my liking. This is our safe name for now but I don’t want to end up using a name that I’m not 100% happy with just because I can’t find a good alternative.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] - we both really love [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] but think it’s too matchy/sing songy with the repeated ‘ian’ ending.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] - my preferred combination (I love [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]) but DH isn’t a fan of the name
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - again we both like this combination (and the [name_m]Tudor[/name_m] reference) we’re just worried the strong ‘st’ & ‘sp’ middles make it sound a bit too matchy

I agree with the poster above - [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] sounds lovely. I also like Sebastion [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
I think [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] could be a bit of a mouthful, same as [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m].
I noticed [name_u]August[/name_u] in your signature - [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] has a ring to it.

I agree that [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a little safe, and that [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] make the name a bit sing-songy/matchy. However, I personally think the most important thing about a middle name is that it has significance to you in some way, or that you just really like it. The flow should be okay, but it doesn’t need to be perfect. That being said, my favorite of your combos is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. It sounds very modern and elegant to me.
I really like @amylette’s suggestions too. [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] are all solid choices that flow well.
I looked at your signature and I think you have some good name options in there, too (although I’m sure you have reasons for not using them in your post). I think [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] is particularly handsome.
I choose [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a very good option too, like you say, if you want to play it safe.

@medforkung Omg I love [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]. DH has vetoed [name_u]Kit[/name_u] (he says it reminds him to much of [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Harrington[/name_m]…erm is that a bad thing :D) will ask his opinion on [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m].
@amylette [name_u]August[/name_u] is a possibility I’m just not sure about naming a kid after a month it’s not born in (even though i understand a name can be used on its own accord).

[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] was an early candidate but unfortunately it just doesn’t go with our surname (begins with e) so I think have a middle name with an e makes it sound too matchy and runs it together a little, which kills us coz [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] is such a lovely name
@addybell Whilst i think [name_m]Knox[/name_m] goes really well with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] I have very negative connotations with the name after the whole [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] [name_m]Knox[/name_m]/[name_u]Meredith[/name_u] Kercher fiasco. And I know my sister would tease because she likes to bring the whole [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] [name_m]Knox[/name_m] thing up whenever she meets an American to declare that she’s guilty blah blah blah (she’s an idiot!). It’s such a shame that people/things can ruin perfectly lovely names

I like [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] the best of your list. I know it’s a little “vanilla” but I feel like you kind of need that with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] to even it out. [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] was the first thing that came to mind, mostly because I have a nephew named Bastion [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I think it’s amazingly strong sounding, along with the regal-ness of both [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m].
