Hello! You guys helped me choose a middle name that I love for my first child, so I’m hoping to get inspiration for the second.
My first daughter is called Lana May. I’m pregnant with baby girl #2 and we have decided to name her Lucy. I had chosen the name Lucy Belle. I feel it has the same vibe as the first one, old fashioned, classic, simple, short, sweet and feminine. But I had somebody told me it sounded too “red neck”. I’m a foreigner so I need somebody else’s perspective. I assume “red neck” means country? The name is too country? We live in the city and we are also Hispanic but I love American names. Let me know what you think and would love to hear other suggestions too!
Other options that I like:
Lucy Marie
Lucy Alice
Lucy Maeve
Lucy Kate
There is nothing wrong with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. That person was being rude. If it’s the name you love, you should use it anyway! That said, I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] from your other options.
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is cute, but [name_f]Belle[/name_f] does have a slight southern-sounding “Southern Belle” connotation. If you love it, go for it, but if you want a more modern or sleek feel, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] seems perfect! [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] has a classic elegance. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] sounds similar to [name_f]May[/name_f], but if you love it it’s another great choice. Some other recommends:
Same “-ell” sound as [name_f]Belle[/name_f]:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Janelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Brielle[/name_f]
A few other ideas:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] (if you like Belle’s simplicity and the B initial)
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Day[/name_f] (rhymes with [name_f]May[/name_f], maybe too much, but I think a precious name!)
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] has a southern vibe, which isnt a bad thing, in fact a lot of people intentionally go for this style of name. The person saying it was red neck probably has their own bias and is out of touch with what is actually currently popular and trending.
I dont think most people who hear [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is going to think red neck, its a beautiful name and wouldnt in any way negatively affect your daughter.
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is lovely - balanced between feeling fresh and vintage. It does have a little bit of [name_f]Southern[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] vibes - but I don’t see that’s a bad thing in anyway
Of your other options, I like:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] - elegant and sleek
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] - warm and pretty - though May/Maeve might be a bit matchy
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] - solid and pretty
Despite the phrase “southern belle” the actual name [name_f]Belle[/name_f] doesn’t feel southern or redneck to me at all. Ironically enough, your first daughter’s middle name is what I think of when I think of southern or “redneck” names. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], etc. [name_f]Belle[/name_f] reminds me more of [name_f]Beauty[/name_f] and the Beast so it gives me more princess-y vibes. Regardless, if it’s the name you love, then I say use it. Those “redneck” type names are very in right now anyway so even if it does remind someone of that I don’t think a little girl with that name would be made fun of her anything. A very popular influencer even just picked the name [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] for her baby and I think that’s just about the most cliche “redneck” name out there.
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is stunning! [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is beautiful too.
You could go with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f].
