Middle name for Violet.

[name]Violet[/name] is a name my husband and I are agreeing on, but I’m having trouble pairing it with a middle name. Our family names don’t seem to work well with it:

[name]Anne[/name] is a family name, but my husband doesn’t like it. Also, our last name ends with a heavy “n” sound like [name]Kathryn[/name] and [name]Marilyn[/name].

We don’t have to use a family name. I just want to find something that sounds pretty with [name]Violet[/name] and not forced. Any suggestions?

[name]Violet[/name] is beautiful!

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Kate[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Kay[/name] could still honor [name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Violette[/name] [name]Marielle[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Mariella[/name] could honor [name]Marilyn[/name].

Other suggestions:
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Vivianna[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]

I like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. I realize the two names aren’t the same style–but I think [name]Frances[/name] is feminine enough not to be jarring and it kind of makes [name]Violet[/name] seem less flowery. But if you want a middle name that is more like [name]Violet[/name] the suggestions above are pretty. Good luck!

Oh, I really like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Kate[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]. [name]Pearl[/name] is my Mom’s birthstone so that would be a way to honor her!

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] [name]Kate[/name] are both beautiful!

I am with Sloppyart, I actually really like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. But I think that [name]Violet[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is quite lovely as well.

We’re planning on using [name]Violet[/name] as well. My vote is for [name]Violet[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. It tames down some of the frilliness of [name]Violet[/name] and keeps it “vintage” sounding.

I love [name]Violet[/name] [name]Kate[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]!!!

I don’t like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] because it sounds like Purple colored [name]Pearl[/name] to me…

I think that is the trouble I’m having with the middle name. Everything I put after it makes me think purple ‘whatever it is’. I guess I need to get over that if I want to use it.

I’ve got 4 weeks until baby #2 arrives and I’m back to square one (thanks to DH) with names. At this point in my pregnancy my brain is mush. I managed to put together a small list of names that seemed fresh to me today. I was hoping to pair them with each other or add new middle names to them before presenting them to DH. He seems to respond better to my lists when I do this.

I appreciate any and all comments or suggestions!

[name]Evaleen[/name] or [name]Evelyn[/name]

I love [name]Violet[/name], and would personally avoid pairing it with a noun (a flower or a gem, or even a word like [name]Belle[/name]), because while anything following [name]Violet[/name] may seem purple, I think it’s more obvious with a noun, such as [name]Violet[/name] [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].

I really love [name]Violet[/name] [name]Frances[/name] from your list.

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name] (seems less like a noun than [name]Rose[/name] to me)
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] (nn [name]Vivi[/name])…only if you’re an alliteration fan, of course.

My apologies for repeats!

[name]Eloise[/name]: I love [name]Eloise[/name]!

[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Frances[/name] (I love this!)
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Georgette[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Margot[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Mireille[/name] (meer-AY)
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] (I love this!)
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Violet[/name] (this too!)

[name]Isla[/name]: I think this is gorgeous, but if memory serves me correctly, I belive that Nameberry has pegged [name]Isla[/name] for mass popularity/trendiness.

[name]Isla[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Mirabelle[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]

[name]Frances[/name]: I love this name.

[name]Margot[/name]: Very pretty…

[name]Margot[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Frances[/name] (I think something longer sounds great)
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]

[name]Opal[/name]: I love this, too.

[name]Opal[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Opal[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Opal[/name] [name]Marielle[/name]

[name]Greta[/name]: I love [name]Margot[/name] more, but I think it’s pretty.

[name]Greta[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Violet[/name] (a bit T heavy)

I’d avoid [name]Pearl[/name] with [name]Margot[/name] and [name]Greta[/name], because the names mean [name]Pearl[/name], so it’s like [name]Pearl[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].

[name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Posey[/name]
[name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Violet[/name]

[name]Piper[/name]: [name]Piper[/name] feels very trendy, and doesn’t fit in with the vintage/classic names on your list.

[name]Pearl[/name]: I love this!

[name]Evaleen[/name] or [name]Evelyn[/name]: I love some of your other names more.

[name]Evaleen[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Frances[/name] (I love this)
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Georgette[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Posey[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name]

[name]Ruby[/name]: I think [name]Ruby[/name] is very sweet.

[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] ([name]Posey[/name] is a nickname for [name]Josephine[/name])
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Miranda[/name]

[name]Penelope[/name]: I love [name]Penelope[/name], especially with the [name]Poppy[/name]/[name]Nell[/name] nicknames.

[name]Penelope[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Violet[/name]

[name]Noah[/name]: For a girl or a boy? (I’m confused, because [name]Noah[/name]‘s style is so different from these other girls’ names…)

What about [name]Nora[/name]?

[name]Posey[/name]: I love [name]Posey[/name], but as a nickname for [name]Josephine[/name].

[name]Georgette[/name]: I really like this name, and love [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Georgiana[/name], and [name]Georgina[/name].

[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Georgette[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Georgette[/name]

[name]Rose[/name]: I love [name]Rose[/name] as a first name!

[name]Rose[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]/[name]Juliette[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Mirabelle[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]

I love SO many of these names!

Good luck!

Thank you so much! What a great post!

I can explain some of the names not fitting in with the vintage/classic ones. I threw in some that my DH has mentioned that he liked. As you can see he and I have different name styles and it’s sometimes hard for us to agree. I have a real problem using names that I feel will be super popular in the future and he doesn’t have a problem with that. My name is [name]Lindsey[/name], so I always had at least 1 or 2 other girls in my classes with the same name. I hated that. I’m not the kind to use a made-up name for the sake of being different, but I think reviving some older names that are not really popular is perfect.

Thanks again! I’m going to list these out for my DH and hopefully we can come to an agreement.

What about [name]Violet[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]? I think that that sounds so pretty!

You’re welcome! I completely understand about [name]Piper[/name] and [name]Noah[/name] now. (With [name]Noah[/name], I was just confused about whether or not it was a boy, so I didn’t know which middles to list.) You two really do have different styles! ([name]Don[/name]'t tell him, but I prefer yours. I love basically every name you listed. Shhhh…)

Here are some [name]Piper[/name] and [name]Noah[/name] combos for your husband:

[name]Piper[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Marielle[/name]

[name]Noah[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Noah[/name] [name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Noah[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] (although I think it sounds a bit like “No! A pearl!”)
[name]Noah[/name] [name]Violet[/name] (ditto, but with "No! A violet!)

I can’t wait to see which of your names you two pick!

Good luck!

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Frances[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Rose[/name].

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is really pretty! Here are others; sorry for repeats…

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Esme[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Opal[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Katia[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Juliana[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Alina[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Mariel[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Adele[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Imogene[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Alia[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Arielle[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Eliane[/name]

You guys are good! Thanks for your input  My DH and I spent all evening going through and knocking our list down to these names:

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Opal[/name]-
DH doesn’t know if he likes it because of the color/stone combination. [name]Opal[/name] honors my grandmother though, so I like it.

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Louise[/name]-
[name]Louise[/name] is from DH side of the family.

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Kate[/name]-
Honoring both our sisters [name]Kathleen[/name] and [name]Kathryn[/name]. This is a front runner for me. DH doesn’t know if he likes how it sounds.

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Frances[/name]-
The middle name [name]Frances[/name] has already been used by my parents with my youngest sister [name]Kelly[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. It sounds good with [name]Violet[/name] though. I could use it again if I wanted.

[name]Edith[/name] “[name]Edie[/name]” [name]Rose[/name]-
[name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Edie[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] is my grandmother’s middle name.

[name]Opal[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]-
DH mother’s name is [name]Elisabeth[/name].

[name]Opal[/name] [name]Elsie[/name]-
My great grandmother’s name was [name]Elsie[/name].

I think the way to get around that “purple colored ___” problem is to use a MN that is not a noun in it’s own right.
I mean:
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Suzanne[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Jane[/name]

Rather than:
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]

I love [name]Violet[/name], I think my favorite combo above is [name]Violet[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] or [name]Elisabeth[/name]

Have you thought of [name]Violet[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]? I like the repeating I sound in this combo!

I actually like [name]Opal[/name] [name]Violet[/name] better than [name]Violet[/name] [name]Opal[/name].

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is my favorite.
[name]Edith[/name] [name]Rose[/name] with the nn [name]Edie[/name] I think is super cute.
