My husband and I are due in [name_f]May[/name_f] with baby #2. We’re down to two names for boys. [name_m]Ward[/name_m] has been on our list for a long time now (honors my husband’s Grandpa [name_u]Howard[/name_u], and goes great with our son’s name, [name_u]Van[/name_u]) but, stuck on middle names fo him…
Current considerations…
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] (family name on both sides…but don’t like the double “D” - War [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]???)
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Morrison[/name_m] (Probably my favorite, love the connection to [name_m]Morrie[/name_m] from “[name_f]Tuesday[/name_f]'s with [name_m]Morrie[/name_m].” Not sure I’m in love with two surnames though…too many opportunities for his name to get mixed up by insurance co/DMV/medical office/etc? And we already have a [name_u]Van[/name_u]…do we really go there with [name_m]Morrison[/name_m]? Sigh.)
Liking the sound of a longer name to balance [name_m]Ward[/name_m].
Bonus points for meaning, though not a deal-breaker. [name_m]Ward[/name_m] means to protect/defend. Would love something inspirational, like love, light, joy, or anything good in this world.
Last name: pronounced All-berg.
What jumps out at you? Anything immediately come to mind?
Why not another color name? Like your [name_m]Foster[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] combo?
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_u]Sterling[/name_u]
Or a handsome classic like [name_m]Patrick[/name_m].
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
I actually think [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Foster[/name_m] or [name_m]Foster[/name_m] [name_m]Ward[/name_m] sounds great, unless you love each name so much you can’t bear to use one in the middle!
We chose [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] because my husband and I became a couple on St. [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]'s [name_u]Day[/name_u]. [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t been able to come up with another middle name that has that same type of personal significance - yet!
I like your suggestion of [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]. Not sure why, but I would like to go into our birth with two distinct options, and see which one best suits him. Though we’ve been asking our two year old if he likes [name_m]Ward[/name_m] or [name_m]Foster[/name_m] and he says [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Foster[/name_m]!
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] and [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_u]Guthrie[/name_u] also came to me. Like the old-school feel. I guess our second date WAS at the [name_u]Guthrie[/name_u] Theater…so there’s that…
I do like [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Morrison[/name_m], and I like the suggestion of [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I think a longer name is the way to go
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] is a great way to honor a [name_u]Howard[/name_u].
I think [name_m]Morrison[/name_m] has all the problems you mentioned so I wouldn’t go there but what about [name_u]Morley[/name_u]. [name_u]Morley[/name_u] means “marshes, moors” so the name would literally mean “defender of marshes” but I would view it as meaning “defender of the natural world”
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Julian[/name_m] (means youthful… defender of youth)
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] (means happy … defender of happiness)
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Winston[/name_m] (means joy-stone … defender of joy)
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] (means courages, large-hearted… defender of courage)
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] (means light … defender of light)
Ooooooooh, I’m LOVING [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Winston[/name_m]…defender of joy. [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] stands out too! Time to go talk to the husband!
I love Ward Guthrie. The sentimental appeal is awesome! And the name itself is great, too. Guthrie is strong enough he could go by it if Ward didn’t turn out to suit him. I’m a sucker for any name that could easily render the nickname “Gus,” since we’ve settled on a “Gus” name for our second-born!
Ward Winston has such a positive meaning. Win also makes a great nickname with Van.
If you like Morrison and Alexander, what about Ward Anderson?
It’s cute that Van puts the names Foster and Ward together when you ask him to pick one! Travis wanted to name this baby “Princess,” but I’m pretty sure that’s not happening now that we know he’s a boy.
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] is great, very classy sounding Although [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] doesn’t have the best flow, I am all about family names trumping all else (especially if they honor both sides!). I think it would be nice for [name_m]Ward[/name_m] to have a meaningful middle just like [name_u]Van[/name_u].
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] is the first thing that came to my mind :), I second the suggestion of [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Foster[/name_m]
