My husband and I are not yet pregnant, but in each of our families we’re the first child to get married, and we have been talking about bonny wee kiddos and their names for months now. Hubby dearest finds it really difficult to come up with names that he likes, but he’s VERY good at telling me which of my suggestions he doesn’t like, and why.
So after several months of “what do you think of…” and “what about…” and “are you SURE you don’t like…” something amazing has happened. I suggested [name]Caspian[/name], one of my most favorite of names…and Hubby says, “Huh. I like it!”

So now I am on the hunt for a sufficiently awesome middle name for our future [name]Caspian[/name]. I’ve had a very hard time with this because I want something unique and meaningful, but not so much so that my in-laws will be completely horrified. Which is TOUGH when your tastes run straight to the fantastical.
I need your help!
The parameters:
-
- Our last name is hyphenated. A two-syallable K***** and a one syllable Str**. As you can see, this limits us from using names that end with a K sound or have to much STR in them…or a combination of the two like the darling Kestrel. Sad.
-
- I’d like to avoid middle names that start with a K or a hard C because then it’s just way too much alliteration.
-
- I tend to go for names that end in -ian, -on, -en…they sound so strong to me. But I can’t do two in a row. As much as I love [name]Sebastian[/name], it doesn’t work after [name]Caspian[/name]. Help me think outside my -n box?
-
- I have very eclectic, non-traditional taste. Names like [name]James[/name] and [name]Charles[/name] and [name]John[/name] are great for people with very traditional taste who have a fear of ever being different. But that is the opposite of who I am, who my husband is, and how we will raise our family…so that is the opposite of what I want.

The pre-dispositions:
-
- I love nature/word names, such as [name]Wolf[/name], [name]Falcon[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Talon[/name], [name]Sage[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Hawthorn[/name]/e, Bracken, [name]Peregrine[/name] ([name]Pippin[/name]), [name]Atlas[/name], or [name]Cedar[/name]. Many of these will not work for reasons listed above, although [name]Sage[/name] is one I’m considering.
-
- I also love literary names, whether Biblical, historical, or fantasy (clearly). [name]Sebastian[/name], Atreyu, [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Dorian[/name], [name]Constantine[/name], [name]Merlin[/name], [name]Nicodemus[/name], [name]Gideon[/name], [name]Damian[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Oberon[/name], and [name]Lucian[/name] have all been on my favorites list at one point or another…but most of them do not lend themselves well to middle names. [name]Noah[/name] was a contender till I mentioned it to Hubby, who wisely informed me that’s “too many boats.” lol
I have put a lot of thought and research into this, obsessive name nerd that I am, but I am utterly stumped for a creative, meaningful middle name. So I submit my problem into your hands, dear Berries. Go nuts!
[name]Caspian[/name] [name]Felix[/name] is a nice combo…not sure how I feel with the -x ending right before the K…is it too much “ksk” in the throat?
