Middle name help!

Old post not needed, got the help I needed!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], I actually love the variety in your middle name list, here are some thoughts:

[name_m]Somerled[/name_m] - sublime! Which pronunciation are you going with? That’s my concern about this one. When spelt [name_m]Somerled[/name_m] is it PN summer-led or sorely or so-ar-ly? Before reading a post about it on NB years ago I’d have gone with summer-led.

[name_m]Andreas[/name_m] - very handsome! It sounds great with your first name.

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - also flows very well with [name_u]Griffin[/name_u].

[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_m]Sholto[/name_m] - absolutely love it!

[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] - presumably both names are meaningful to you, given that you’d consider them in spite of the ensuing admin problems of using two middles in the US? [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe you just really love the 3 together - they make a very handsome combination. It bothers me a teensy bit that all three names have two syllables. (I tend to prefer shorter names so I have this problem with putting names together myself.)

[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_u]Rafe[/name_u] - I do like [name_u]Rafe[/name_u], but I do get the word association of the crime that it rhymes with. On the other hand, it reminds me of raffish, as in ā€˜marked by a careless unconventionality’ and [name_f]Georgette[/name_f] Heyer describing her love interest characters as having their hats ā€˜tipped at a raffish angle’. I’ve read the first concern a fair bit here on NB and the second association is probably all me
Flow wise there are a lot of F sounds going on in this one, which means it isn’t my favourite to say out loud.

[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] - these flow well. [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] is fairly new to me so I’m still forming an impression.

[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] - in spite of their style differences, these two sit quite well together! I love the flow of the 3 syllables as a middle.

[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_m]Vladyslav[/name_m] - I think it’s absolutely valid to use a Ukrainian name with your close family connection and descent! [name_m]Vladyslav[/name_m] has a pertinent meaning too.

Thanks for your response!

I am pronouncing [name_m]Somerled[/name_m] as summer-led.

As for [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] Josef/Joseph, [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] is just a name I think is really cool and Josef/Joseph would be to honor a name I went by during a really rough few years shortly after coming out and I’d use this combination as a tribute to myself (which might sound a bit cheesy lol). I think this one ranks last, and maybe I am just attached to the idea surrounding the names. I can always name a pet later down the line with this!

[name_u]Rafe[/name_u] has been a name I have been back and forth on for a little while. ā€œRaffishā€ is not a word in my vocabulary so thank you for bringing attention to that, I do want to stay away from negative associations. I agree with the repeating F sound in both names, saying it aloud verses reading it in your head make all the difference.

[name_m]Ransom[/name_m] is an old name from what I know, the meaning is ā€œwarrior’s shieldā€, but of course most people associate it with holding someone for ransom. I do have a slight concern as this is also used as a last name and my first name is a prevalent last name so I’d like to stay away from my full name sounding like ā€œsurnameā€ ā€œsurnameā€ ā€œsurnameā€ lol. Again maybe a pet name later down the line?

Thanks for the reassurance about potentially using a Ukrainian name.

All in all you have given me a lot to think about in a good way, going over names by yourself you sometimes don’t see every thing or get to approach it with a new lens. So receiving this feedback was extremely helpful. I think as for [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Josef[/name_m], [name_u]Rafe[/name_u], and [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] I shall put those on the back burner for now!

Thank you again
