Middle Name Honoring

I would love to honour my grandfather by using his name or part of it as a middle name if we have a boy.

The problem is, I don’t really care for this name as a middle name as far as flow goes.

His name is [name_u]Willie[/name_u]. Not [name_m]Will[/name_m], not [name_m]William[/name_m], just [name_u]Willie[/name_u]. It doesn’t flow very well and his middle name is so out there that I refuse to even consider it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any alternative to this or combos that sound good?

Thoughts or suggestions?

What kind of names do you like? I think if you went with [name_u]Willie[/name_u] a longer first name might work to bring balance to [name_u]Willie[/name_u] as a middle name. You could also use [name_m]William[/name_m] as a middle if you really don’t like any first names with [name_u]Willie[/name_u] as the middle name. A lot of people don’t say their child’s first and middle name together very often. I personally do say my son’s first and middle name together semi-frequently so I know for our next baby that the first and middle have to flow well. Our son’s middle name is one he shares with his great grandpa. Great Grandpa’s first name is just too out there for us even if we used it as a middle.

Depending on the first name you choose, I would consider [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_m]Will[/name_m] as his middle name as [name_u]Willie[/name_u] is a version of them and therefore close enough to honour [name_u]Willie[/name_u].

Use a form, like [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Will[/name_m], [name_m]Wilson[/name_m], [name_m]Wilbert[/name_m] or something. What is his middle name? I understand that you don’t want to use it, but there could be a variant or form that you like.

[name_m]Will[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_u]Billy[/name_u]/[name_u]Billie[/name_u], Wilmot, [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m], [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m], [name_m]Wilson[/name_m] could be alternatives. Or, if you don’t mind more of a stretch, [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] or [name_u]Wylie[/name_u] could work.
Additionally, there’s the option of using his initials to build your kids name? [name_m]Winston[/name_m], [name_m]Webster[/name_m], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] and [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] are some other W that came to mind
OR perhaps a name based on shared meaning/shared origins:
[name_m]Liam[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] (protector)
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m] (protector)

As someone else said, a longer first name would probably make [name_u]Willie[/name_u] working the middle, but there’s nothing wrong with using [name_m]William[/name_m].

I have a friend whose grandpa had the given name [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and she’s decided to use [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] to honor him. Since [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is a diminutive of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] it still totally works, the same is true for [name_u]Willie[/name_u] and [name_m]William[/name_m].

Could you use [name_m]Willis[/name_m]? Its sooo close.
