So I’ve fallen in love with the middle name Minx. Adds just the right amount of spunk and sass to the first name we’ve settled on… [name]Amelie[/name]. I think it’s adorable for a little girl. I also love that Minx is a character in one of my favorite books ever… A Confederacy of Dunces. So we were all settled on [name]Amelie[/name] Minx, and then I happened to come across the definition of minx in the urban dictionary, and found out that a minx is street slang for a cheeky, flirtatious, sexy girl. Obviously this turns me off since we are planning on calling her Minx early on, until she grows into the name [name]Amelie[/name]. What do you think? Is the middle name Minx unusable? Are people going to think I’m weird for calling my toddler Minx?
I’m sorry, but I do think it’s inappropriate. The word has definite connotations that a lot of people will pick up on.
In my area a “minx” is definitely someone who is sexy/flirtatious/teasing. I can’t imagine it getting past this connotation. I think it’s inappropriate for a baby/toddler.
Edit: As an added note, I would have thought the character Minx in A Confederacy of Dunces would have been a dead give away to the word’s connotation. She’s a bit promiscuous, wouldn’t you think? While she’s an intriguing character and it’s a wonderful book, I don’t think I would make her my daughter’s namesake.
Ok, thanks for the advice. I guess I live in a bubble over here. So since Minx is out, are there any suggestions for short, sassy, offbeat middle names to go with [name]Amelie[/name]? The only other one I can think of is [name]Roux[/name], and I’m not totally sold on that.
Ok, thanks for the advice. I guess I live in a bubble over here. So since Minx is out, are there any suggestions for short, sassy, offbeat middle names to go with [name]Amelie[/name]? The other middle names we like are [name]Roux[/name] and [name]Olive[/name], but we could use other ideas.
I think [name]Roux[/name] is a nice middle for [name]Amelie[/name]. Minx does seem to have a lot of spunk but I see the connection issue.
Other suggestions:
[name]Roxy[/name]
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Lilah[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name] (Idk if you watch [name]Burn[/name] Notice but the character [name]Fiona[/name] is my first thought with this name)
[name]Fiora[/name]
[name]Merida[/name]
I can’t think of any other ones but I’m sure others have some good suggestions.
I love [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Roux[/name]! The spelling adds to the spunk and gives it a similar feel to Minx, even if the sounds are different.
[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Lux[/name] could work if the heavy l’s do not bother you.
[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Roxane[/name] or [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Roxana[/name] would be sweet. [name]Roxie[/name] reminds me of Minx but without the connotation (yes, I immediately thought of “oh you little minx”, it’s a line in some movie I’ve seen).
[name]Amelie[/name] Sphinx : D?
There’s also [name]Minka[/name], which is a Polish nn for [name]Wilhelmina[/name]. [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Minka[/name] is fun!
I think it’s a little too cheeky maybe better for a book character? I like [name]Amelie[/name] though
Yea Minx has some definite sexual connotations.
Not just your area - it’s the same in Australia and New Zealand. To me it’s similar to naming your daughter [name]Amelie[/name] Flirt.
I was going to say how inappropriate it was, but I see you’ve changed your mind already
[name]Roux[/name] is cool, I slightly prefer [name]Rue[/name].
[name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Star[/name]
[name]Clio[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name])
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Dixie[/name]
[name]Lula[/name]
Well, darn, Minx is just so stinking cute. Im blushing for being so naive. But I get it, and I’m not going to do that to my DD. Keep those offbeat ideas flowing though… We are in need of suggestions. Thanks berries!
What about [name]Trixie[/name]? [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] nn [name]Trixie[/name]?
Or [name]Lynx[/name]? it’s also an animal, but doesn’t have the same connotation as Minx. Not as good of a flow with [name]Amelie[/name] though.
[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Nyx[/name]? cute!
[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Roxanne[/name] - nn [name]Roxy[/name] or Rox
Or if you really want different what about [name]Amelie[/name] Ink? Has a similar sound and a cool vibe imo.
Others:
[name]Echo[/name]
[name]Coral[/name]
[name]Pax[/name]
[name]Ever[/name]
[name]Skye[/name]
[name]Finch[/name]
[name]Kit[/name]
[name]Faye[/name]
I think [name]Roux[/name] would be great if it was spelled [name]Rue[/name]. When I see ‘roux’, all I can think of is a flour/butter/milk base used in cooking.
minx is super cute, I get that you wanted to use it. I’m glad you took it off.
I’m guessing you want a little name with an x-sound, to make it spunky and fun! I love the suggestions of [name]Lux[/name], [name]Nyx[/name], [name]Trixie[/name] and [name]Roxy[/name].
Vixen
Iynx
Syrinx
[name]Pixie[/name]
[name]Salix[/name]
[name]Fox[/name]
[name]Lynx[/name]
Trixibelle
I think [name]Peaches[/name] is cute too.
