DH and I are narrowing our name list for incoming baby #2, a girl. She’ll be joining big brother [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Alton[/name_u] ([name_u]Jamie[/name_u]) in [name_f]May[/name_f].
Right now our top agreed choice is [name_f]Elise[/name_f], and we’ll call her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Berries, my questions for you are:
Out of these choices, which middle name do you like best? These all have meaning to us in some way, but any other recommendations?
We really love the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], but we’re not quite as fond of the full [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. Any suggestions for full names that will give the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]?
Another top choice is [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and we’ll call her [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. Any strong preference for this?
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] is lovely. I really like [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] from your list.
Other ideas include:
My favourite suggestion for you is [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous, and goes perfectly with your son’s name. It also fits very well with your middle name options.
Here are some other ideas:
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a personal favorite of mine, but perhaps with [name_u]James[/name_u] you’d prefer [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
With [name_f]Elise[/name_f], I’m loving [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] (same as daffodils and sunflowers thought!)
I think if you choose [name_f]Elise[/name_f], the middle name should probably not start with S as it’s a bit of a tongue twister ending with the S of [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and going into S of middle (or at least not smooth).
I love [name_f]Elise[/name_f], but I dislike [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and that dislike had the reverse effect for me when naming my daughter: I couldn’t use [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Elize[/name_f] or [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] because of my aversion to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
The most natural [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] names for me are [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]. I prefer them - and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] - to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] (though [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a lovely name). If I had an [name_f]Elise[/name_f], I’d go for Lisey (Leesee) or [name_f]Lise[/name_f] because that’s the pretty part of the name to me.
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] are lovely but I would call her [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. There are SO many little [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]'s on the playground that it loses it’s edginess.
I love [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]! I do agree w previoud posters that the s sounds run into each other a little but as middle names are rarely used I dont think it matters much.
My favorite full names for [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] are [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and just simply [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
I do like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] for its literary connections and overall vibe but I can’t help but find it a little plain… I do like [name_u]Allie[/name_u] though, such a sweet nn!
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is lovely! I really love [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but I will suggest [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] for [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] names
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] or [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is lovely! But I prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f] over [name_f]Elise[/name_f] because while [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a timeless classic with a lot of elegance and history to me [name_f]Elise[/name_f] still feels very dusty and old-fashioned and I’m not too fond of [name_f]El[/name_f]-names as I have one myself.
Other suggestions with the nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]:
Can I just say I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Alice[/name_f], I think it goes very well with [name_u]James[/name_u]/[name_u]Jamie[/name_u], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is perfect to me.
My top choice is [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]. Maybe consider [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Elinor[/name_f]/[name_f]Elanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elliana[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?
I prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f] to [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but I know the loveliest [name_f]Elise[/name_f] so I have positive associations with this one, too.
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_u]Scout[/name_u] is my favorite combo - so spunky and unexpected!
The more I say it out loud with our last name, the more I hear what you mean about the ‘S’ sound. with [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_u]Scout[/name_u], etc. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is our hands-down favorite name for a girl but is way too popular, so that’s why we tried it in the middle. I think it’s out, though. And the alliteration with our last name makes it less of a good fit in the first name position, too. All well. [name_m]RIP[/name_m], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. Still a gorgeous name for someone else
DH and I are huge nickname people - I love Lisey (lee-see) or [name_f]Lise[/name_f]. Thanks for pointing that out!
I agree with the comments above about a mn for [name_f]Elise[/name_f] starting with an S. I really like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] with [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] as a nn so that would be my first choice. Have you thought of [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]? [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is a great combo. I know a little girl [name_f]Elise[/name_f] whose nn is Lisi (lee-see) and I thought that was cute. Another possiblities is [name_f]Esther[/name_f] nn [name_f]Essie[/name_f]. I think [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] are a handsome sibset!
