Middle name suggestions for Matteo?

Hi folks! We’re about to have a baby boy and want to name him [name_m]Matteo[/name_m] (I’m Italian-American with an Italian last name) and working through middle names. Would anyone have any good suggestions? We’re kind of leaning away from Italian middle names since it’s maybe leaning a bit too much that way. We’re gravitating towards nature-themed names but haven’t found anything that hits us like a lightning bolt.

We also have some [name_m]Irish[/name_m] heritage and were considering things in that area, but Gaelic spellings/pronunciations can be challenging.

So far we have:

[name_f]Clover[/name_f]

[name_f]Fiore[/name_f]

[name_m]Leone[/name_m] (lion, he’ll be a [name_m]Leo[/name_m])

[name_m]Alan[/name_m] (family name)

[name_m]Aiden[/name_m]

[name_m]Orion[/name_m] (I think the double O might be challenging phonetically)

[name_m]Ryan[/name_m]

[name_m]Lonan[/name_m]

[name_m]Florian[/name_m]

[name_f]Any[/name_f] suggestions?

I was going to suggest [name_m]Luca[/name_m] but given your brief I wonder if [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] would work or perhaps [name_m]Callum[/name_m]? I think you can’t go wrong with any of your suggestions. I do quite like [name_m]Leone[/name_m] and the nod to being a [name_m]Leo[/name_m] too

I’m a big fan of classic middle names. This is nice if you’re trying to steer away from another Italian middle name. However I do really like [name_m]Leone[/name_m] out of the set you listed. It flows very nice. If you go classic, I like:

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m]. “Matty/Matt/Teo/MJ” lots of nickname options.

[name_m]Nature[/name_m] suggestions:

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Reed[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]River[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Bear[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]

[name_m]General[/name_m] suggestions:

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Lucian[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Stellan[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Hadrian[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Cadmus[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Dorian[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Adrian[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Christian[/name_m]

[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]

I really like [name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Ryan[/name_m], it feels balanced and flows beautifully. From your list, [name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Orion[/name_m] is gorgeous too, but I agree the double “o” makes it a little clunky. [name_m]You[/name_m] might also like [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], [name_m]Heath[/name_m], [name_m]Reed[/name_m], [name_m]Ashton[/name_m], [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], [name_m]Glenn[/name_m], [name_m]Robin[/name_m], [name_m]Linden[/name_m], or [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].

I actually think [name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Orion[/name_m] flows nicely and don’t think it sounds too clunky! Though [name_m]Orion[/name_m] is one of my gp boy names, so maybe I’m biased lol. I love the above suggestions of [name_m]Matteo[/name_m] [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], it has a similar sound to [name_m]Orion[/name_m] but with a slightly better flow (I absolutely love the name [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] too, so maybe I’m biased again :joy:)

[name_m]Mateo[/name_m] [name_m]Lonan[/name_m] is lovely.

Suggesting: [name_m]Colt[/name_m], [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_f]Shae[/name_f], [name_m]Grey[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_m]Leland[/name_m], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_m]Rhys[/name_m], [name_f]Quinn[/name_f], [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], [name_m]Lowen[/name_m], [name_m]Ray[/name_m], [name_m]River[/name_m], [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m], [name_m]Sorrel[/name_m], [name_m]Hart[/name_m], [name_m]Cyan[/name_m], [name_m]Lane[/name_m], [name_m]Flint[/name_m]

I love [name_m]Lonan[/name_m], such an unfairly neglected name I bet will get popular in the future. Another similar choice is [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m].

One thing I’d say is that [name_m]Matteo[/name_m] (the Italian version as you know) and the much more popular Spanish [name_m]Mateo[/name_m] will both frequently be misspelled, so you might want a middle name with one established spelling. So out go Reed/Reid, Gray/Grey, Rhys/Reese, Ray/Rae, Shay/Shae, even something supremely simple like John/Jon. If your last name is two syllables or more, I’d look for a one syllable middle. If it’s one syllable, a two syllable middle might sounds best.
