Middle Name Suggestions for Our Final Five

Hey all,

I’m now 31 weeks and 6 days along with my first child. My partner and I had an easy enough time agreeing on a girl’s name, but as luck would have it, this little one is male. Berries have been super-helpful over the months while we’ve narrowed our list from something like 40 or 50 names to 5. We are now stuck on middle names, and could use some more help.

Our little dude’s name might be:
Ambrose David / Ambrose David Wolf (nn Abe or Wolfie)
Ezekiel David / Ezekiel Forest
Jerome David (Jerome might lose his place on our short list, in part because we don’t love this fn mn combo, but we so love the nn Jem that we’re having a hard time letting Jerome go)
Oskar Peregrine / Oskar Winslow
or
Ruben David / Ruben Wolf (nn Rue, Benny, or Wolfie)

We are considering David as a middle name to honor my dad and maternal grandfather; Winslow is for my maternal grandmother. Otherwise, we are thinking of somewhat out-there nature names like Orion, Viridian, and Lightning. Too out-there with the kind-of uncommon first name possibilities?

We are at a standstill, and maybe it’s my hormones but I am nearly tearing my hair out trying to come up with something that will stick.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thank you kindly.

I think [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] sound good with [name_m]David[/name_m]. And [name_m]Jerome[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] and [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] sound better with [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. My favorite combo using a family middle would be either [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] or [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. If you decide neither one sounds right with your last name and forgo using a family name, I think [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] and [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] [name_m]Viridian[/name_m] are awesome! As well as [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]! My suggestion would be to consider two middles. Maybe it will help balance out the name and make [name_m]David[/name_m] feel less staccato or keep [name_u]Lee[/name_u] from slurring into your last name but you will still get to use an honor name. Something like [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] or [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] [name_m]Viridian[/name_m]. Some other suggestions not on your list:
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Tennyson[/name_m]
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] [name_m]Moss[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Forest[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Stone[/name_m]
[name_m]Ruben[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Jerome[/name_m] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]

Here are some suggestions:

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]

[name_m]Jerome[/name_m] [name_m]Inigo[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Inigo[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Inigo[/name_m]

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Jerome[/name_m] [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Jerome[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] Voss
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] Voss
[name_m]Jerome[/name_m] Voss
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] Voss
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] Voss

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Maximus[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] [name_m]Maximus[/name_m]
[name_m]Jerome[/name_m] [name_m]Maximus[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Maximus[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Maximus[/name_m]

I can see the concerns with [name_m]David[/name_m] and [name_u]Lee[/name_u], I think if those names’ meaning win out the cadence of syllables or running to the last name won’t matter as much. I also like [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] from your secondary list.

@macy13, [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] are the two strongest possibilities with [name_m]David[/name_m], so we’re happy to hear that they sound good to someone else! [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] would work in a flash, but after mulling it over some more, we’re not going to use [name_u]Lee[/name_u] alongside my partner’s last name. [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], however…I’m into it! [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] makes my heart sing today; I imagine a very specific little guy when I think on this name, so we’ll have to wait to meet our boy to see if the name fits. Thank you for your feedback and suggestions!

@jblack11, my sister suggested [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] as well! I think it flows nicely between [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and the last name. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] are lovely, handsome names, and I go back and forth on whether or not they work with [name_m]Ruben[/name_m]. My first thoughts are YES and YES but are they too heavy on the U/oo sound? Too sing-songy? We’ll have to consider them further.

I’m bumping this thread up, hoping for more input. With eight weeks to go (officially, at least), we are really wanting to figure out a middle name for each first, since our efforts to pick just one have been fruitless.
