SO I realize this isn’t going to be a popular name for everyone, but my DH and I really <3 Hawthorne.
But I’m not sure what we want to use as a middle name.
Some ideas that come up right off the top of my head are:
Reid (a family name)
Alexander
Do any of you have any suggestions?
Our last name is Reynolds. We aren’t sure what nick name we’ll use, but we like either Hawk or Thor.
Any recommendations are welcome. However, we’re pretty set on the name, so I doubt you can convince us to move it from the first name spot.
ETA: my DH seems really keen on Sebastian lately. I’m trying to convince him something shorter would work better. Sigh. He likes Reid because its his mother’s maiden name, but I’m so over Reid.
I like [name_m]Thor[/name_m] as a nickname. It’s awesome.
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u] sounds the best from your two, but [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m] flows weird, so I’d go for something longer.
I’m a big fan of using family/meaningful names in the middle spot, so I’d suggest you brainstorm with those, and if you don’t like the names themselves, see if you can find variations/smushes you like.
First shortened form of [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] that came to mind was [name_m]Heath[/name_m]. I like [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. I’m more inclined to a single syllable middle name in this case; two maybe.
If not [name_u]Reid[/name_u], maybe
[name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_u]Emmet[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Keith[/name_m]
I like [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u] especially since its a family name. If you want to use it, go ahead since most of the time you don’t say the entire name.
I also want to suggest [name_m]Thorne[/name_m] as a nn. I think it has a high cool factor.
The problem is, our DD middle name is [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. We call her Roo, short for [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. So we’d end up with a [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and a [name_m]Thorne[/name_m]…
I rather like [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] both of your nn suggestions as well as [name_m]Heath[/name_m].
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] nn [name_m]Thor[/name_m] is awesome. Neither [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m] nor [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m] sound quite right to me. [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Alex[/name_u] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m] sounds good though, at least to my ear. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is stuck in my head for some reason. [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m]? Are there any other family names you like?
I wish! My mother’s family doesn’t have a lot of men in it. [name_m]Paul[/name_m] is my grandpas name, [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] is the surname, and my uncle was [name_m]Michael[/name_m]. I have no interest in any of those names. I do not know my father’s family, as my parents divorced when I was a baby, and I never grew up knowing any of them. My last name was Coulter, but I don’t like that with [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] either.
[name_u]Reid[/name_u] is my [name_f]MIL[/name_f]'s maiden name. DH’s father’s name is [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m]. Other than that we have a lot of boring, super common names. We haven’t gone to family inspiration for any of our kids names because of that. Our DD has a name that wasn’t used in our family at all, because really all we had were a bunch of Annes.
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u] is the best we’ve got, the others seem too clunky or just wrong Which is why I was looking for suggestions :).
I think the right middle name could totally make this name work well. The problem is convincing my DH the name works too. I’m not sure he actually says any of them out loud before suggesting them.
What do people think of [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] as a middle name?
Would [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m] just be too long of a name?
My hubby mentioned it last night as a suggestion, as it was a name we have both liked for a while and he thinks it sounds good.
But I also know he doesn’t always consider all the options, or necessarily sound anything out.
It’s funny because before opening this, my first thought was oh, [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] or [name_m]Ried[/name_m]… (Being [name_m]German[/name_m], I prefer this spelling…)
I absolutely adore the name [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]. It has great nickname potential as well…two of my favorite names are [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] and [name_m]Thor[/name_m]…and I think this is a great way to get either of these names…
Other nicknames…
[name_m]Huck[/name_m], [name_m]Thorne[/name_m], [name_m]Hank[/name_m], or [name_m]Howie[/name_m]?
Anyway, I think you should go with [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. Especially since it has family significance to you…
I also, like the sound of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
Perhaps, you like
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Lukas[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
So many awesome nicknames for [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] have been thrown out…as for the middle name, I’m not the biggest fan of [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u] for some reason, and there’s something about [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]'s flow that irking me a bit. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]? Seems to flow better to me. [name_m]Evander[/name_m] could also be a contender.
I think my DH is finally opening up to some new ideas. He still likes [name_u]Reid[/name_u] or [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] as middle names for [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m], but I’m getting him to think about [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_u]Blake[/name_u] as options too. I also really like Rhys, but worry its too similar to Reid and might cause an upset to the one Grandma who is stuck on us naming our son Reid. Sigh.
