Middle names help. For my beloved Leona

sigh I really want to be asking about boys name right now since I think this baby will be another boy (we’ll find out in about 6-10 weeks) but we don’t even have any male contenders. So, instead I would like assistance choosing the baby’s middle name for a girl who would be [name]Leona[/name] with 90% likelihood.

Right now our choices are [name]Leona[/name] [name]Gillian[/name] or [name]Leona[/name] [name]Andromeda[/name]. Last name starts with N and is two syllables. [name]Both[/name] choices are honor names. [name]Gillian[/name] is for my grandma who is alive, I think it is such a lovely classy name and I like the G spelling. [name]Andromeda[/name] is for my dad [name]Anthony[/name], always know as [name]Andy[/name], who died when I was 16. My dad was a huge space nerd so he would have gotten a kick out of the galaxy association.

I like both options even if they do not have super ideal flow from some people’s perspective. I like that my grandma [name]Gillian[/name] would be around to appreciate a namesake. My husband really likes [name]Andromeda[/name] more because he is also a space nerd. I would consider a second middle name to smooth out the flow, to help with the N heaviness of both middle options with the last name, and so I could use more fun names.

Some types of names that I like are:
[name]Valerie[/name]
[name]Suzette[/name]
[name]Solenne[/name]
[name]Simone[/name]
[name]Raquel[/name]
[name]Marielle[/name]/[name]Mary[/name]/[name]Meryl[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Eira[/name]
[name]Faye[/name]
[name]Beth[/name]

I left out names with N’s or A endings so there aren’t too many of my favorites here, I really like N’s and L’s usually, and many A ending names. I am not sure any of these would work in a too well with a double middle for [name]Leona[/name] [name]Andromeda[/name] or [name]Leona[/name] [name]Gillian[/name], but I think the list may give you a better idea at the types of names which I am thinking for this combo. Strong and feminine, not too strange-especially with [name]Andromeda[/name], not too many N’s and probably no A endings.

So, what do you think, [name]Andromeda[/name] or [name]Gillian[/name]? And I would be so delighted to see what sorts of combinations you can come up with for a double middle name!

Oh and lastly, not like I’m going to talk my out of Leona in all likelihood but what do you think of Andromeda as a first name? Too much? I’m kind of really liking it right now, but it’s also hard for me to picture that there really is a real baby being currently being formed so I’m not sure how realistic it is.

I vote for [name]Leona[/name] Andromenda or
[name]Leona[/name] [name]Georgie[/name]
[name]Leona[/name] [name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Leona[/name] [name]Abrielle[/name]
[name]Leona[/name] [name]Marielle[/name]
[name]Leona[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Leona[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Leona[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]…

I don’t really like [name]Andromeda[/name] with [name]Leona[/name]. You get the N sound in leona, again in [name]Andromeda[/name] and then again in your last name. Seems a bit much.

I love [name]Leona[/name]! I like [name]Leona[/name] [name]Raquel[/name] and [name]Leona[/name] [name]Iris[/name]!

[name]Leona[/name] [name]Andromeda[/name] is a really, really fun combination. Meaning always trumps flow in my book, and personally I wouldn’t pass up the meaning that [name]Andromeda[/name] has for you just because her full name won’t flow beautifully. She won’t go around introducing herself as [name]Leona[/name] [name]Andromeda[/name] Surname; only worry about how [name]Leona[/name] sounds with your surname. If you add a second middle name to [name]Leona[/name] [name]Andromeda[/name] you risk coming off as pretentious and over-the-top. I would leave it as is.

As for using [name]Andromeda[/name] as a first name, it’s not a bad idea. I would be thrilled to meet an [name]Andromeda[/name], but it doesn’t seem like the kind of name that would be very versatile.

[name]Leona[/name] is lovely! Since [name]Andromeda[/name] has meaning to you, it would be a great middle name. I think it’s too much as a first name, unless your kid is going to enroll in Hogwarts. I’m of the same opinion as PP who said it doesn’t matter that much if the first and middle flow as she will never introduce herself that way. Meaning is much more important when choosing a middle name.

[name]Leona[/name] is beautiful! I prefer [name]Leona[/name] [name]Gillian[/name], especially since it honors someone in your family. [name]Leona[/name] [name]Andromeda[/name] is a bit over the top for me.

Hey thanks everyone! I am thinking [name]Leona[/name] [name]Gillian[/name] [name]Andromeda[/name] “[name]Norman[/name]”. I like that this option gets rid of the -a A issue of [name]Leona[/name] [name]Andromeda[/name] and the -n N issue of [name]Gillian[/name] “[name]Norman[/name]”. I like all of the N’s personally as long as they don’t run together. My grandma would really be surprised that I used her first name as a middle because I have not been close to her all of my life and I think she doesn’t really know how much she means to me. This will be my final child and I also want to name her/him after my dad for my own sake. I would love [name]Andromeda[/name] as a middle name, personally, but if she doesn’t it could easily be hidden as a 2nd middle.

[name]Just[/name] [name]Leona[/name] [name]Andromeda[/name] is in 2nd place because I think it’s such a fun middle name that it might feel like a shame to hide it in the back. Also, my grandma is from [name]England[/name] and I’m not sure if she would think it was odd to use two middles since it is an upper class tradition and we aren’t exactly upper class… [name]Do[/name] any Englishberries have any thoughts about my grandma’s likely reaction to 2 middles?
