Middle names?

What are some names you like solely as middle names?? As in names you would never consider using as a first name or even as a nickname.

[name_f][/name_f]

And any particular reason you wouldn’t use certain names as first name but would as middle names??

I have a lot of these!! Mostly, it boils down to the fact that I like the name a lot but not enough to use it as a first name, or I have an issue with the nicknames. One of my go-to boys’ middles is [name_m]Konstantin[/name_m], which I love, but I’m not a fan of the nicknames!

Also: [name_m]Theodor[/name_m] & [name_f]Luzia[/name_f] (because they’re honour names), [name_m]Rosen[/name_m] (doesn’t work well in my partner’s first language), [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] (don’t like it enough to use it as a first name), and Hristina (hard to pronounce in many languages).

I’m also realising that a lot[name_f][/name_f] of long boy names fall in this category for me, and it actually makes sense. Most boy names are two syllables, and I don’t like many one-syllable names. So for a combo to flow nicely, I usually pair a two-syllable boy name with a three-syllable boy name! But there aren’t that[name_f][/name_f] many long boy names out there? Because of that, there are a lot of three-syllable boy names on my list that I like because of how they flow as middle names to shorter names, and less because I love those names individually, since my options are limited. These include [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] like I said, but also [name_m]Aleksandr[/name_m], [name_m]Aurélien[/name_m], [name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m], Cantemir, Dmitriy, [name_m]Florimond[/name_m] and [name_m]Laurentin[/name_m], among others.

Some are because I love[name_f][/name_f] the first name but hate an obvious nn (mostly [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] lol):

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eliora[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Eliane[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Or[/name_m] doesn’t feel namey enough to use up front:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Plum[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Wisteria[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]Lionheart

[name_f][/name_f]

Feels too complicated to explain constantly:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ffion[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Irenaeus[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Alphaeus[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ffion[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Eilidh[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Laerke[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Theophile[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Floris[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Or[/name_m] I just don’t love them enough to call said name a million times a day (or I do, but for some reason can’t envision ME having a kid with the name):

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ansel[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Shiloh[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Fenna[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Alba[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Or[/name_m] lastly, names I love as honors because they aren’t exact family names but ones that remind me of family, and thus too close to a real person’s name:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ciaran[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Breccan[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Arlo[/name_m]

Definitely see what you mean about matching and or flowing syllables. I tend to gravitate towards either one or three syllables names, but of course the first name is the main factor.

I agree with you about much of the middle names I like being solely middle names, especially when it comes to honor names.

I so see what you mean about the more adventurous names. I am of the camp of the middle name to be the more traditional name such as [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] or [name_m]David[/name_m]. Then for the first name to be slightly more modern. Creates more balance for both in my opinion.

Names I like solely as middle names are usually either GP word names (Wildrose, Sapphire, Lavender, Starling, Brave, etc), or names that are a little too “clunky” or old-sounding for my usual style (Marjorie, Ernestine, Margaret, Frederick, etc). I still like these names but don’t love the idea of using them as first names.

For me, some ‘middle name only’ options are:
[name_f][/name_f]a) too popular
[name_f][/name_f]b) too close to names of people I know
[name_f][/name_f]c) I’ve used for characters or guinea pigs

[name_f][/name_f]

Perhaps if I was naming a real baby instead of just having fun with combos, I’d maybe add ‘names that are too out there’ to the list (ie. [name_f]Libelula[/name_f], Stargazer)
