[name_f]My[/name_f] partner and I are currently TTC our 3rd and I’m passing the time by looking at names. Obviously it’s not a naming emergency or anything, but I’d like to go into this with a few ideas–especially since we have a tendency to leave the naming too late and I end up just giving up and agreeing with what my partner wants.
He named both of our children. I love my kids’ names and feel like they suit them really well, but I probably would have chosen others if I was the only one making the decision. This time I’m going to offer more input but I already feel a little overwhelmed and at a loss.
I’d prefer not to share the names of our kids since they’re very uncommon and I’d rather this not show up in an internet search of their name. [name_f]My[/name_f] son’s name hasn’t ranked in the US Top 1000 since the 1950s and is more commonly a surname. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter has a classic, beautiful name but it hasn’t ranked in the Top 1000 since the 80s. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband really loves unusual/historical names while I tend to prefer classic, traditional names. We both really like [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] but my husband dislikes how common it is. I’m trying to sell the name to him by coming up with a more uncommon middle name or first name but I’m discovering that naming is completely out of my wheelhouse.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes traditional [name_u]Irish[/name_u] names, names from European mythology, and historic-but-out-of-fashion American names. Our last name is one syllable and starts with a B. We already have a [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] in the family. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any ideas for names that fit these categories and sound good with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] as either the first or middle name?
[name_u]Welcome[/name_u] to NB!
First, I love this naming style. If we ever have children (we’re TTC right now as well) this is gonna be me because ours are likely to land so unique it’ll be obvious who we are lol.
Second, as a potential alternative to [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] if you can’t win him over, maybe [name_u]Alwyn[/name_u]? It’s waaaay less common (especially in the US). It’s never ranked in the top 1000 and is very Welsh/British. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a suggestion in case!
Middles for [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] (that could also work as firsts, IMO):
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Endellion[/name_u]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] Rowell
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Viridian[/name_u]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Devereaux[/name_m]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Murdoch[/name_m] (maybe this one would be best as a middle…)
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Callahan[/name_u]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Conal[/name_m] (Connal/Connell is another variant spelling)
Others that could be firsts:
[name_m]Halloran[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_m]Faolan[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_m]Nairn[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_m]Percival[/name_m] (maybe not with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] to avoid doubling from one fairytale) [name_m]Percival[/name_m] Alwyn/ [name_u]Alwyn[/name_u] [name_m]Percival[/name_m]?
[name_m]Remus[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] (might be associated with [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], though)
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Ames[/name_u] has been on our short list most of this pregnancy and I love it as a combo! But I was also turned off by how common [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] is becoming. I think [name_u]Ames[/name_u] is uncommon enough to spruce it up though.
