Ok so 8 weeks to go, but we are struggling to find the right middle name for a girl…
We are set on [name]Aurelia[/name] as the first name. I have posted a couple of times before, but am having trouble locating them, so hoping this is the last! I really want a name with some awesome reference, whether it be a literary, mythological or historical figure, a botanical reference or just something really interesting but not trendy or tacky. [name]Aurelia[/name] seems to be gaining popularity so I want to make sure she still has something different in the middle in case. As much as I want the name to flow beautifully, I can’t stand the thought of using a ‘filler’ name for that reason alone. Names that start with vowels, or end with ‘a’ or ‘n’ seem to not go as well though…
Our boy name is [name]Peregrine[/name] [name]Lyons[/name] “[name]Penn[/name]”, and we are so happy with it. The last name will be Forman, sister is [name]Iris[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] and half brother is [name]Orrin[/name]. We live in Australia.
So far we have:
[name]Aurelia[/name] Nimue - my current favourite, but is it too much pronunciation?
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Arrietty[/name] - hard to say?
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] - ditto
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Guinevere[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Lyons[/name] - Family name, but too masculine?
[name]Aurelia[/name] Lyonesse - ref to [name]Lyons[/name] family name, authentic Arthurian name, but could be taken for tacky yooneek spelling?
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Fern[/name] - doesn’t feel as special as others
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] - feels a bit filler-ish, but like the Irish mythology connection
Names we like but have ruled out for various reasons include: [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Sage[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Fiammetta[/name], [name]Etta[/name], [name]Pomeline[/name]…
Have we missed any? Would love to hear your suggestions or thoughts…
Hmm…
[name]Aurelia[/name] Nimue - I think for me their are far to many sounds going on in the combination. It’s far to over-whelming. I would say something like [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Niamh[/name] would work better than [name]Aurelia[/name] Nimue which just doesn’t work.
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Arrietty[/name] - I hate the fact that the name is a run of two unusual ‘A’ names with many vowels and sounds it makes the combination too much and slightly crazy. The alliteration is also an issue. It’s seems far to ‘try hard’.
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] - Great names, very powerful with beautiful sounds and connotations but it’s too much. The flow is off.
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Guinevere[/name] - This is my favourite so far. I love [name]Guinevere[/name] the name is very elegant and timely. [name]Guinevere[/name] adds so much grace to [name]Aurelia[/name]. The combination sounds effortless. I really love it.
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Lyons[/name] - I actually really love it. [name]Aurelia[/name] is a beautiful choice very feminine but she has a lot of vowels and does feel like a mouthful at times. [name]Aurelia[/name] in my eyes needs simplicity and [name]Lyons[/name] adds a touch of simplicity in a really intriguing way. I don’t find [name]Lyons[/name] too masculine especially as a middle name for something like [name]Aurelia[/name]. I honestly love it!!
[name]Aurelia[/name] Lyonesse - Far too much!! Visually looks really unappealing and ruins the class of [name]Aurelia[/name].
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Fern[/name] - I like the simplicity [name]Fern[/name] brings to [name]Aurelia[/name]. [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Fern[/name] does have a very elegant feel and the name flows well together. Yet I agree she doesn’t have the ‘wow’ factor of the other choices. Yet in retrospect it does make the combination far classier and less crazy like some of the other combinations.
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] - [name]Maeve[/name] sounds so elegant with [name]Aurelia[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the sound of the combination!
My favourite is [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Lyons[/name] followed by [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Maeve[/name].
Thanks tori101 for your really specific thoughts I feel very similarly to a lot of your comments, and am really torn between going plainer but classier and something I feel more passionate about but sounds more full on. I personally have a really intense name which makes it hard as I have really grown to appreciate it as I got older, but I know that it can be annoying too…
[name]Aurelia[/name] Nimue - I like it in theory, but it is slightly overwhelming, as a previous poster stated. [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Arrietty[/name] - The repeated “A” sound gives it a caricature feel to me? Like a character in a Disney movie. Also, it’s a lot of name! [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] - Hmm, not for me. Not sure. [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Guinevere[/name] - A really beautiful name. I like this one best. My only concern is that [name]Guinevere[/name] is an obvious reference, if something like that matters to you. [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Lyons[/name] - I like it. Very cute. Pronounced with or without the ‘s’ at the end? [name]Aurelia[/name] Lyonesse - A bit much, in my book. [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Fern[/name] - Oh, this is just so charming and cute. Quite unexpected. [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] - I love it. Very pretty.
A lovely list.
Here are a few suggestions, based on what you have thus far and your requirements: [name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Morgaine[/name], [name]Fae[/name]/[name]Faye[/name], [name]Lilac[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Ceridwen[/name], [name]Oona[/name].
I like [name]Aurelia[/name], and I get exactly what you are trying to do! I think [name]Guinevere[/name] is the best choice in your list. I am not completely convinced by your middles yet (as it sounds like you aren’t either) so here are a few more along those lines:
I really like [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Fern[/name]. I like the simplicity, as other posters have said.
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] (The [name]Scarlet[/name] Letter)
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Iris[/name] (flower, Greek goddess of the rainbow)
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] (faithful wife of [name]Odysseus[/name])
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Fawn[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Selene[/name] (means “moon” in Greek)
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Niamh[/name] (Irish goddess)
[name]Aurelia[/name] Aglaia (one of the Three Graces)
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Clio[/name] (Greek muse of history)
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Lark[/name] (nature, [name]Cosette[/name] in [name]Les[/name] Mis is called “the [name]Lark[/name]”)
I agree with most everything tori101 said. Of your list, I think [name]Fern[/name] or [name]Guinevere[/name] would be my choices, with [name]Lyons[/name] a distant third.
[name]Aurelia[/name] is a name that stops just short of being fussy and frilly, so I don’t think you want a middle that would push the sound over that line.
[name]Fern[/name] was actually the first thought that came to my head when I saw your post. What about [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Cerise[/name], which I think I love? My other ideas are [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Maris[/name] and [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Coraline[/name]. Historical and literary suggestions are difficult–who or do you admire; what are your interests? I can see [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Millay[/name] if you love poetry or [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Court[/name] (after [name]Margaret[/name]) if you are a tennis enthusiast; I’m just not sure where to look.
This is a tough one…most mythological ideas seem too overblown as do most botanical. Most Shakespearean names I’ve considered seem a little too familiar, because, if I understand you, you want something truly distinctive and uncommon…Then throw out the names that begin and end in vowels or ‘n’ and the field really narrows.
[name]Aurelia[/name] Leonesse is a lot of name, but I rather like it. It’s pretty, flows well, and has family meaning - what could be better?! With such a beautiful a first name like [name]Aurelia[/name], I don’t think people will assume you gave your daughter a yooneek middle. Plus, Leonesse doesn’t really follow the trendy things people are currently doing to names (this is a good thing!). [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Leonie[/name] might be a bit more grounded, if you’re interested in that.
Thanks everyone! Most seem to like [name]Guinevere[/name], [name]Lyons[/name], [name]Maeve[/name] and/or [name]Fern[/name] the best… maybe i just need to let go!
I really love [name]Niamh[/name] and it flows so well without being over the top but it is the name of a girl from the year above me who went missing and has never been found I also like the suggestions of [name]Oona[/name], [name]Ceridwen[/name] & [name]Pearl[/name] but can’t use for various reasons…
I suppose I like [name]Iris[/name] being able to see beautiful pre-raphaelite pictures of [name]Ophelia[/name] and feellike it’s a special picture for her. My sister is called [name]Clodagh[/name] Ygraine …
I am so happy to see you using [name]Aurelia[/name], it’s currently my favorite I hope you’re wrong about it getting popular though, it’s still out of the 1000 and hopefully stays that way until I have kids…
I would pair [name]Aurelia[/name] with something short and sweet since its such a long and extravagant name. [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] is my favorite out of your options.
Other suggestions:
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] (kinda a guilty pleasure on mine, but I love the flow)
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Callisto[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Calypso[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Lark[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Muse[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Lux[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Vesper[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]North[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Hero[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Lenore[/name]
I really love [name]Aurelia[/name] Nimue and [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Guinevere[/name]! They’re elegant, romantic, unusual and sort of magical. I don’t find Nimue too much- it’s only two syllables and don’t have any trouble pronouncing it myself.
