Middles for Nyx

I’m in love with the name [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] for a girl. I think it’s spunky, mysterious, bold, and ancient Egyptian-like yet still enticingly futuristic. However, it’s the type of name that would in my opinion feel incomplete without a conventional middle name to balance it out. So I’m looking for ideas!

So far I’ve got:

[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] (Reeeeally like this on paper. [name_m]French[/name_m] and quirky. But the x-s combo could sound like it’s one word?)
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] (“Sexmeralda”?)
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] Aven (“Next [name_f]Heaven[/name_f]”?)
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u]

Then of course there’s the concern that she’ll always have to turn her head when someone shouts “Next!”. Maybe it would make a better middle name. What do you think?

[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] is the goddess of the night in Greek mythology. I think she would have to turn her head every time someone yelled “Next!” or “[name_u]Nick[/name_u]!”

I think it makes a much better middle name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] from yours I like:

[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] [name_f]Nyx[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Nix[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] [name_f]Nyx[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Nyx[/name_f]

[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] is lovely. As is [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f].

I’d say that a bigger concern than the “next” issue is how similar it is to nix. I’d have a problem giving a person a name that means “nothing” or “to forbid, refuse or veto”. It seems like such a negative association to go through life with.

I’d say if you love it and can overlook the associations, use it as a nickname for something like
[name_f]Annika[/name_f]
[name_u]Nicola[/name_u]
[name_f]Venice[/name_f]

[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] is too nicknamey. It would make a sweet nn for [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Danica[/name_f], etc. It makes a really great middle name.

I think it is cruel to name your daughter [name_f]Nix[/name_f]. Rhymes with ticks, and isn’t it the name of the anti-tick medicine that is so toxic?

I would suggest going with [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] if you like tomboyish/quirky girl names and that way you could nickname her [name_f]Nyx[/name_f], nykki, nia, etc or pixie for an at-home nn when she’s little)

[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] is very difficult as a first b/c of the x ending, [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] would be easier if you want it to end in x.

[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] (nyx)

[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f]

[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] [name_u]Haven[/name_u]

Other first name ideas:

[name_f]Nicolette[/name_f], [name_u]Dominique[/name_u] (nyx, niqi, miqi(micki), etc)

[name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Coral[/name_f], [name_f]Coralyn[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u], Oaklyn, [name_f]Aura[/name_f]

[name_f]Cambrie[/name_f], [name_f]Cambria[/name_f], [name_u]Quincy[/name_u], [name_u]Damaris[/name_u], [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f], [name_u]Rylan[/name_u]

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Laurette[/name_f], [name_f]Kenna[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], or [name_u]Sydney/name_u

Middle names:

[name_f]Xanthia[/name_f], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], [name_m]Nixon[/name_m], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]

[name_f]Bree[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_u]Oak[/name_u], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Nyx[/name_f], [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m](or even as a first it could work on a girl and nyx, niki, kai are cute nn’s)

Yes and yes.

I like [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] - the “next/nick” thing is not worth worrying about [name_f]IMO[/name_f], I always turn my head when people say “shut up” because my name is shauna and it can sound very close at times, and it really isn’t a big deal. I laugh about it

My favorite from your list is [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u]

[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Amara[/name_f], perhaps?

I prefer it as a nn or a middle! I think of the Greek figure first & then I think of the headlice shampoo.

[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] and [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] are lovely. I’d go with something ‘bright’ to contrast [name_f]Nyx[/name_f]

[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Lenore[/name_f]
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_f]Helene[/name_f]
