Came across this name… Romanian for the name [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]. From what I have gathered, I believe it is pronounced Mee-Hi-Ella (if this is wrong, please correct me)
I like the sound of this name, especially to honor someone named [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]. I think it would get mispronounced in [name_u]America[/name_u], but I am noticing that some of these international names that I thought would never be common in [name_u]America[/name_u] (like [name_f]Anais[/name_f] which is gorgeous) are on the SSI top 1000 list.
What’s wrong with [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]? I much prefer [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] over Mihaela. I see major pronunciation issues with it.
I live in Croatia and know a few girls named Mihaela. Everyone here has heard of it but it’s not super common. I personally prefer it over [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] and feel like it could work in the US, considering that many names from other countries work as well.
[name_f]My[/name_f] instinct was to pronounce it as rhyming with [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], but that’s easy to correct people and the sounds aren’t hard.
I like it, especially if you have ties to that culture.
Oh it’s lovely!! When I first opened this thread, I expected a pronunciation more to the tune of [name_f]Mahalia[/name_f] (which is a name I also love), but this one is so fun! Thank you for sharing this find I think it would actually work fairly well in the US if the person was fine with semi- regular spelling corrections
It’s lovely its gonna be misspoken until it reaches common usage levels but meh do it anyway.
To my eye it looks like Muh-Hay-Luh, only because it looks like a popular spelling of the name McKayla or close to the name [name_f]Mahalia[/name_f] which probably all have the same roots as variations on [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. Either way a simple correction from time to time never killed anybody.
