[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Guys,
We are so torn with the spelling for our little buys name.
We really like the name [name_u]Mika[/name_u] (pronounced mee-kah) - influenced by the songwriter and F1 driver. Think the name is Finnish, but we are worried that he will forever be correcting people pronunciation so though we could call him Mieka as it has a more obvious pronunciation but worried that this spelling is mostly used for females.
What are your thoughts??

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about pronunciation, regardless of how you spell the name, people will make mistakes. It just happens and it’s ok. [name_u]Mika[/name_u] is a cute, handsome name!
[name_u]Mika[/name_u] looks best, I think Mieka would just be more confusing and I don’t think it would necessarily help pronunciation.
I think [name_u]Mika[/name_u] still works best for your pronunciation as Mieka doesn’t really solve the problem but will likely confuse other people even more.
And with [name_u]Mika[/name_u] you can just say “we pronounce it mee-ka, just like the singer” and people will adapt to it pretty quickly.
[name_u]Mika[/name_u]! My [name_u]Mika[/name_u] is 17 so have had plenty experience of this. He was named with a nod to Finnish great granny (and father [name_u]Michael[/name_u]). Technically it should be spelt Miika in Finland we are told (but [name_u]Mika[/name_u] F1 driver isn’t, or is he Mick-A?). It was the F1 driver people presumed we had named after back in the day, singer had not emerged on the scene. He has very few wrong pronunciations*. As a baby and toddler people did wonder if he was a girl at first but we had less and less of this as he grew (and singer became known).
Mieka looks too fancy to me (and if I was naming a girl [name_u]Mika[/name_u] I would just spell it [name_u]Mika[/name_u] also); I also agree it looks more feminine.
Great choice btw, it has served my guy well I believe.
*My mum questioned our spelling choice (“wouldn’t it be pronounced ‘Mick-A?’”). Her name is [name_f]Tina[/name_f]! A close family friend is [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]. Etc.
What a wonderful, original name choice! I love it.
The [name_u]Mika[/name_u] spelling makes the most sense to me, and looks the cleanest and simplest.
I’m in the US, its a girls name to me, with either spelling. Sorry.
Definitely [name_u]Mika[/name_u]! I would automatically pronounce this “MEE-kah.”

Great choice [name_u]Mika[/name_u] is one of the names I wish to see more often on boys. I would spell it [name_u]Mika[/name_u].
